Maybe this has been discussed previously but I may have missed this. If You Tube TV is available through Apple TV, and the Apple TV app is available on the ROKU devices, would we still be able to access You Tube TV in that manner if ROKU drops the You Tube TV app? It doesn't make sense that this would be an option, but thought I would ask.

I got an email from YouTubeTV/Google about it. I composed a rather terse email after checking with the Roku peeps about their side of this story.

I've been looking for a replacement for YouTubeTV for a while anyway. Their prices just keep increasing without a sufficient increase in content. I enjoy Roku enough for the other apps I use on it to keep it and dump YouTubeTV (since they aren't the only kid on the playground). Apple TV is right out because thats jumping from the frying pan into the fire....

ATTTV's smallest package of 65 channels is working for me.  I added the unlimited 90-day storage for 10.00 and EPIX for 6.00.  Sure it's a little more (very little more) but I already had other repeated issues with youtubetv and I was never every able to speak to a representative to get them resolved; ever!  A dispute between youtubetv and roku finally broke the camel's back ... and I made the change.

I cannot find YouTubeTV and I am using a 3800X streaming stick. Can someone help?

There are a couple of things that can be going on. First, are you in the US or a regions where Roku is supported. Many apps won't work or be available outside areas where Roku is supported, even if the service is otherwise available.

Next, because of the ongoing contract dispute between Google and Roku, YouTube TV is currently a non-certified app. If you've had it on one of your Roku devices before, you should be able to search for it on your Roku and find it. If you've never had the app on any Roku device, you may be out of luck.

one of the facts is google wants Roku to adopt industry standard codec "AV1", Roku is refusing.

if service is working now still, Youtube ain't the one cancelling it, Roku is. I suggest you contact Roku and tell them not to remove

I have received no such email from Roku, and I'm a registered user.

I'm sure there is more to the story than we've been told, but there are no clean hands in this one.

I am the OP for this thread. No, I am not a google lackey. My views are all about my personal TV viewing.

I don't doubt Google is trying to pull anticompetitive moves via their dominant position and Roku has every right to fight it. Cool.

But I still like youtube TV and think it is fairly priced. I have no contract so as soon as something better comes along, I drop youtube TV for the newbie thing i like. That's consumer choice on the internet.

Roku is just hardware. The important part of Roku, for me, is the remote control, because that's what i interface with. I looked at the 4k Fire stick. The remote looks good but that offering is old (by internet standards) being from 2018. It's only $50 on Amazon. I might get one 4k Fire stick just to check it out.

I have LG and Samsung TVs so no experience with Roku TVs. But couldn't anyone with a Roku TV just get a 4k Fire stick and go around any Roku app limits? If this showdown isn't resolved, the streaming devices that run the apps are the only vulnerability, no? And my bet is Roku will cave, Google has too much market power right now.
