Re: Can't find YouTube TV on my stick

I am in Washington State, USA.

Only yesterday tried to install it, so it appears to be because of the dispute. Now I will need to decide Roku or YouTubeTV.

Should I wait and see if this dispute is resolved or is this a permanent problem?

If you're unable to find it on your device by searching Streaming Channels, then you're out of luck for now, at least.

Nobody knows how long this dispute will last. I suspect the 2nd (or depending on your source, 3rd) largest live streaming service will be available on the largest streaming platform.

YouTube TV

I hope Roku doesn't remove the YouTube TV app.  We really hope this doesn't happen because we'll be forced to move to the FireStick or Chromecast or something else.  We own 2 Roku devices and if Roku removes the app for YouTube TV we will be unhappy and will move away from Roku which has worked for us for a long time!

I wonder if I can return the Roku devices to the store?

I wonder what are our other options if we can't use Roku anymore?

I wonder what Roku will do and I wonder what they will force users to do?

YouTube App cancellation

Want to upgrade my Rokus but waiting for final decision about YouTube TV app being removed from Roku. Anyone know when final decision will be made? Don't want to upgrade if I need to go to different device.

No.

There is never a final decision. Unless of course, the two companies never talk again, in which case the final decision was already reached.

Google and Roku will continue to talk until they agree to terms, or until they stop talking. Even if they reach an agreement, it will be for a length of time, and new contract discussions will need to be held.

By the way, this is also true of agreements between Google and Amazon (for Fire TV) and between Google and Apple  (for Apple TV). When contracts come up for renewal/discussion, the companies involved will talk until they reach an agreement or stop talking.

Re: YouTube TV vs Roku negotiations

2) Roku is stating that YouTubeTV is trying to control search. First, I really doubt the YouTubeTV app even interacts at the Roku home screen, and if Roku is trying to affect the Search within the YouTubeTV app, I am not sure I want that... Why should Roku be changing my experience within an app they are running?

I think you're referring to manual search, right?  Manual search (typing) in an app and on the Home screen are separate.

I believe the issue at hand is that Google wants Roku to modify the way voice search works.  Voice search is a Roku-wide search, but can be accessed while watching an app.  It sounds like Google wants Roku to modify their voice search results if the YouTube TV app is active.  That would be a fundamental change to the overall Roku voice search experience, so I can see why Roku would resist.

This feature would have pros and cons, and both options would generate support from users.  The negotiation between Roku and Google is natural.  Both sides acting childish has unfortunate consequences for the user community.

Re: Roku / Google?

I am concerned about the same thing.  YouTube TV is 100% the reason we purchased the Roku TV.  So, what is going to happen?  Am I gonna need to add a streaming device to the TV that I purchased so I could get rid of the devices? UGH!  This stuff is ugly and usually driven by money.  Not a fan.

Re: Youtube TV Contract Dispute

You could do that, but what about carriage problems in the future between Amazon and , let me think, ... Google, no that would never happen. Maybe try out a Google device also.

Re: YouTube App cancellation

Maybe this is a wake call to everyone , to have another streaming device from some other vendor. So go ahead and get that device, just not from Roku.

Re: Youtube TV Contract Dispute

I have two TCL tvs with youtubtv being one one the main apps I use. We all agree to Googles terms every time we surf the web with the most popular web browser in the world. We also agree to the terms when we use any Android device on the planet. I will not be throwing away two expensive tvs but can no longer recommend Roku to anyone as I have for nearly 10 years.
