I am ready to dump all roku devices - where does that leave you, corporate roku??

Then you are playing right into Google's plan. What are your options, if not a Roku? You have Apple TV, which has its own set of limitations and restrictions on providers. You have Fire TV, or any other number of Android based players. Who supports Android? Google. You either buy a player that is manufactured by Google (Chromecast), or uses an operating system that makes them money. Either way, they get even more of your personal information, which is what Roku is attempting to limit.

Re: YouTube TV app no longer available

@atc98092 my issue wasn’t just with the YouTube tv app. The original YouTube app wasn’t working either. All other posts were just for the tv option. Mine was about both YouTube apps, thanks.

Re: YouTube TV app no longer available

I use YouTube on almost a daily basis. I'm usually on my Ultra 4800, and have never encountered a problem. I recognize that some users are having issues. But it's not system-wide, which makes it extremely difficult to troubleshoot. And with misbehaving applications, the first step is always to remove, reboot and reinstall the app. Unfortunately, that can't be done with the YouTube TV channel, as once it's removed it can't be added back.

There is another way to accomplish the same thing without losing any installed channels, but it's more time consuming. A hard factory reset will wipe the device, and then when it's set back up to the same Roku user account all the existing channels will be restored, including YouTube TV if it's there previously. One would still have to reenter user credentials on the channels that need it, but it is one way to "remove/install" a misbehaving channel. And with any computer program, sometimes something gets corrupted in the code and a clean install is the only remedy.

Re: YouTube TV app no longer available

@Cori01

I notice your other post was two months ago – have you not been able to get youtube running in that time?  I've been viewing it on a Roku Express 3930 for years without any issues (opposite end of the Roku Spectrum from the Ultra that @atc98092  mentioned).  Admittedly I don't spend much time on it, because there are just way too many commercials for my taste, but it seems to be functioning fine.  Assuming you've tried the remove/reboot/re-add, there are some threads specifically about the youtube app that may be worth a look.  I do get the impression that it's one of the more "fragile" apps.

Re: YouTube TV app no longer available

We all need to call our congressional representatives.  As consumers, we should not be caught in the middle of this.  We are paying for a service with YouTubeTV and they are now limiting our access to it.  Maybe we should just all cancel our YouTubeTV subscriptions.  Obviously, they don't care about us!!

You aren't serious, right? National lawmakers have zero interest in something like this, nor should they. Yes, you are paying for a service. Is that service still available? Yes it is. Perhaps not on the equipment you're using, but it's still available. Google has never made a promise that YouTube/TV would remain on a specific piece of hardware, and Roku never did either. In fact, the Roku user terms of use agreement states that channels can be removed at any time.

Carriage issues happen all the time between providers and equipment manufacturers. TV networks and satellite providers often get into spats about if their content should be carried, and channels have been removed from satellite services on numerous occasions. There's an issue right now KING-TV in Seattle and Dish Network. No one in Congress is getting into a lather about it. That's because there's no guarantee that a specific provider shall be available on a specific service.

On my Roku TV the regular YouTube app no longer works as well. All others work fine.

Re: Roku blocking YouTube TV due to conflict with Google

I am siding with whoever is not lying to me.  I have had the regular YouTube channel (NOT YouTube TV) on my Rocky for years.  Now it doesn't work.  That makes Roku's statements about not disrupting existing services A LIE.

RUKU BLOCKS ALL YOUTUBE DESPITE ITS CLAIMS NOT TO

I can't get my Ruky YouTube (the regular one; not the TV to work for days, even though I've had it for years.  This makes their statement6s a LIE.
