There are a couple of shows I would like to watch that require a TV subscription. We don't have one. (dumped DirecTV) Why doesn't Roku become a TV supplier?
Please excuse my ignorance. I'm new to all this stuff.

Then Roku would have to make deals with those channels to take a portion of your monthly roku bill (yes, there would now have to be a roku bill) to send to those channels.
Keep in mind that there are plenty of cable-alternative streaming services, that you can use on your Roku, such as sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, Philo, Fubo, etc. so for now, you can just sign up (and pay) one of those if you want those cable-type channels.
