Roku automatically changed my HBOMax app to a Max app several months ago. I did not ask for the change. How do I change it back to the old HBOMax app?
The reason is that I live in Europe and watch HBOMax. Max has not come out here yet. I have an HBOMax account I made here in Europe but I brought my Roku here when I moved from the US. Strangely, the new Roku Max app cannot access my HBOMax account, so I am watching HBOMax on my phone. But I prefer to use the Roku. I just want to restore the old HBOMax app and continue as it was before.
Roku did not force the change, HBO did. The old app no longer works, because they rebranded themselves as MAX. The fact the channel was removed was all due to what HBO controls, not Roku. You have to wait for HBO to approve MAX for your locale. Roku cannot alter the settings the channel provider has for channel availability.
And no, there's no way to restore the old app. Even if you could, HBO would again force its removal the first time you went to use it. When they made the change to MAX, each time I started the app on my Android devices it told me to install the new app and the old one did not work.
Except that the HBO Max app still works in Europe where HBO has not yet rebranded and rolled out the new app. I live in Europe and want the keep using the old HBO Max app on my Roku, but Roku switched it without asking. Surely Roku would be aware that people outside of the US use Roku.
But the HBO Max app is no longer available on the Roku channel store. So there is no app to reinstall.
But the HBO Max app is not available on the Roku store anymore. Even in my region. I made my Roku account when I was living in the US.
I think you were responding to Chbing, but that was just a spam post. Most likely chatbot generated, just for the purpose of adding a link. Unfortunately this forum has a lot of that.

If you create a Roku user account in one country and then move to a different country, you must create a new Roku user account when in the new country. That's the only way you will get the channel that is designed for your location. Again, Roku did not switch your MAX app, HBO did. And it was a forced change because your user account is based in the US, where the old app no longer works.
Channel availability on Roku devices is based not only on where you are currently located, but also where you were located when you created your Roku user account. Both locations need to agree to get the channels available for your particular location.
