Not had Roku for some years but I'm sure there was a way to keep track of where you were in a film to watch later. Also a save list for films, but can't find it.

Also used to watch some decent Hidden Channels but not sure where to find list and codes. 

Plus I don't remember this many advertisements.

It's up to the app to keep track of where you were in movies or shows. It may often require creating some form of account, or at least will be specific to each device.

Hidden channels are gone. There used to be private channels, which were supposed to be for beta testing. It was grossly abused by porn and pirate sites. Roku shut that down and created a proper beta testing setup.
