Roku Ultra LT: Local channels

Jump to solution

How is the location local channels are received from determined?

I live halfway between a metro area to my North and a metro area to my South. Currently, my locals come from the Southern city, but I want them from the Northern city. Will changing the zip code associated with my Roku help?

Any advice is appreciated.

@Rodthebod-

Roku doesn't bring you your local channels, some channel app you are using does (such as YouTube TV, Hulu plus Live TV, etc.).  What local channels you get is determined by that channel app.  Some you can set directly, some use the IP number assigned to you by your internet provider to determine your location, and for all I know some may actually use the zip code you've entered into Roku.

You can try entering a different zip code in your Roku to see if it makes a difference.  But if it doesn't you may need to contact whichever service you are using to view your locals.

Never thought about that.

I use HULU for my locals.

Thanks!

@Rodthebod-

Since you're using Hulu, I found this:

How to change your home network

If you need to change your home network, you can do so easily on the Hulu Live TV website. Remember, to update your home network, you need to be connected to an internet connection that is not shared or a mobile network. In most cases, this should be your home internet connection.

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Click on the profile icon.
  3. Select account.
  4. Head to the “Privacy and Settings” section.
  5. Click on “Set or Change Home.”
  6. Save new location.
