Roku Media Player 5.0 broken

Can't play videos off a USB stick anymore either.  Tried 2 different USB sticks on 2 separate Roku 3 devices.  Please fix!

Re: Roku Media Player 5.0 broken

@Rosu I am assuming these videos used to play. Can you tell us the container used and the codecs within it?

Re: Roku Media Player 5.0 broken

Yes, the exact same files played fine until a couple of weeks ago.  They are .m4v files Video: H.264 - MPEG-4 AVC, 1280 x 720. Audio: MPEG AAC (mp4a) Stereo 48000 Hz 32 bits per sample.  The video plays back in a stuttered fashion and the audio is just a repeating noise that sounds somewhat like a sputtering motorboat.

They play fine on Mac and Windows machines, as well as a Samsung TV when I plug the USB drive into the TV's USB slot.

Re: Roku Media Player 5.0 broken

Re: the discussion of beta testers, a version should not even be rolled out for beta testing until the developers have gone through a series of defined test scripts.  Seems pretty straightforward that those test scripts should include whether files encoded with the codecs that the SDK claims to support actually play properly.
For anyone dealing with RMP audio producing only clicks/pops/white noise, note the many discussions in the audio section on the topic, which extends beyond RMP itself.

Roku Express won't play m4v files

I have a Roku Express player and used to be able to stream and watch m4v files from my network LAN drive via Roku Media Player.  Recently, I began encountering an issue where the movie will load but the audio is distorted (loud clicking noise).  I do not have this issue with mp4 files loaded on the same external hard drive and can play them fine.  I also noticed that this problem occurs on a separate Roku Premiere device but not on a Roku Streaming Stick.

Re: Private listening not working (in Roku Media Player)

Private listening stopped working with the Roku Media Player after FW update, but not with all videos. It may have to do with specific codecs. Most videos in my media library which used to work will no longer play audio.

I have tried with my RC-AL4 remote and with the Roku app on my smartphone, but the same videos are silent.

I have a Roku Ultra 4660x.

It seems the May 12th, 2021 update broke it.

(Also having the stuttering noise problem on files which used to play fine)

As of the June 29th 10.0.0 build 4209-46 update, it still isn't working.

RMP hasn't worked for me since version 5 came out about May 15, 2020.  I believe they have just given up.  they should just delete the app from their "channels".
