I just subscribed to Showtime through Roku. My original assumption was that I would be able to use the Showtime app, but it appears that is not possible; I have to use a specific Roku app that streams most, but not all, of the Showtime content.
I am not here to complain but to ask: What is the benefit of subscribing to premium channels through Roku if I can not use the premium apps which are better and subscription cost exactly the same (in the case of ShowTime, has live streaming)?
If there is no clear benefit, the solution is easy enough. Cancel subscription that is through Roku, and resubscribed specifically through the premium channel website, such as Showtime. No big deal if that is the case, just want to know if Roku does provide some added benefit for subscribing through Roku?
Some people prefer to be able to manage all their subscriptions in one place. That is the only benefit that I can think of.
You stated the solution perfectly. Note that when you cancel your Roku subscription you'll still have access to it until the end of its period.
One final note: It may look to be the same price, but Roku takes a percentage of anything paid through them, so Showtime doesn't receive the same amount.
