So apparently older Roku does not work with Philo so because of this I need to but a new stick? This is lousy support on the part of Roku. I don't want to have to invest in a new stick every few years.
I have seen this comment posted before regarding Philo, but according to the Philo Support pages, the following Roku devices are supported...

Through Philo chat, they will confirm that some of their numbers above are wrong (regarding model numbers), but Philo will work on the Streaming Sticks 3810, 381X. Just a typo on their site.
You can contact via chat, phone etc. to see if particular model is supported. Open 24/7.

So basically Roku would like me to invest in a new product every few years? I don't think that's an appropriate solution.
What model number are you currently using? From within Roku, go to Settings/System/About for model number.
This is the reply from Philo.
There it is!
Roku no longer supports the model 3500x so they are no longer pushing updates.
This will explain why Philo is not working on the Roku tv but it is on the Firetv. Here is a link to our support site that shows are supported Roku
Philo should work on Roku TV. If it doesn't, that issue needs to be worked. The models that aren't supported are really old Roku devices.
By the way, the Roku models that do support Philo go back to 2013, so "every few years" isn't really a good argument. Fire TV didn't even exist in 2013.

Ahhhh. Yes, the 3500 has entered the "Legacy Device" classification It can no longer be updated past OS 11.0.
Many of these older devices will still work, depending on what content you are watching. However, may not work (usually will not) if channels/apps update their channels.
In the above case, you are correct. If you want Philo, and most of the newer channels/apps then you will need a newer Roku device.
Not sure how that is relevant to my post. Few means three more. Your response was not needed.
Thank you. Seems I have a Legacy device. Interesting this is the only App that has an issue. Lesson learned if I buy another Roku device I'll buy it from Costco so I can return it every time it falls into this category.
This is the only channel/app you noticed so far, but this is because Philo discontinued supporting older device models. Many Roku users happily stream with the older Roku models because they use channels/app that still support their older models.
Need to realize that device support is dependent on the channel developers. It is up to them how many device models and OS revisions they want to keep writing code for. Also, some channels cannot support the much older devices because of hardware limitations.
Best thing to do is go to Roku's product page and see what the current device offerings are. https://www.roku.com/products/players. I also prefer to buy them in a store because of the easy return policy if needed. Pay attention to the model numbers when you decide on the device you want. Roku often uses the same name for a device, so you want to make sure you are getting the latest model "number" available for that particular model.
