If any of you use EERO and have your ad blocker on, this was the issue for me. I disabled that and now everything works perfectly again.
Last Updated 1/18/2022
Started happening to me on my Roku TV. It only happens with Paramount +. Initially the show would be fine until the first commercial break, then would freeze. I found in this case I could fast forward and finish my show. Tonight it started happening at the beginning. I noticed it would indicate 1 of 2 ads, get all the way down to 8 seconds then freeze (this is where the CBS logo ad would appear). It appeared there was 1 second left in the first commercial so I couldn't fast forward to get into my show.
I have updated the app (no fix), removed app-restarted roku-readded app (no fix). It all worked fine prior to becoming Paramount+.
Really frustrating.
Updated information:
1. This is happening on a ROKU TV. There is no ad blocker on TV, Router, or DSL Modem
2. I only have a single Paramount+ account which I've had since it was CBS Access.
3. I cleaned out my Router log and fired up ROKU TV and brought up Paramount+ (and got the error at 7 seconds left of the first commercial). This is a listing of all the IP addresses my ROKU device accessed:

Update #2:
So I thought I would see if I had problems with my ROKU Stick. It works fine, but then I typically don't use it but once a year and I haven't updated it since May 2021. So here is the information on both devices:
Not Working on ROKU TV C135X - TCL model 43S421
Software version: 10.5.0 Build 4210-93
Panamount+ App version: 6.3.202111292
NOTE: This has all the latest updates for ROKU and Paramount+ software
Works on ROKU Stick ROKU Player model 3600X-ROKU Stick
Software version 10.0.0 Build 4195-24
Paramount+ App version: 5.2.20210421
Update #3
Did a factory reset on the ROKU TV. Unfortunately it seems to automatically update to the latest ROKU version. I was hoping to be able to return to an older version to see if it was the Roku software or the Paramount+ software that was the issue.
Okay, I think I figured out why my Paramount+ comes up with the error during playback. When I disable the ad blocker on my router, it works fine. I've got an Asus RT-AC86U router running Merlin 386.4 firmware, and a router based ad blocker add-on called Diversion. When Diversion is disabled, Paramount+ works fine. I need to find the Paramount+ server addresses so I can add them to Diversion's whitelist.
Just thought I'd fess up and admit the issue was on my end.
We got it fixed. Apparently we had 2 accounts under the same email, when we did a free trial a few years back on either paramount or cbs. Had to call Paramount Plus, wait on hold, have them tell me to call roku, then I insisted I am not hanging up until they delete the one account, was told they could not, still insisted, then eventually they froze the one account or something and now it is fine. You will have to wait patiently on hold (mine was an hour) and then be firm that you want the extra account deleted. I was able to see the accounts on my Roku as previous subscriptions.
Any up-date yet? Very frustrating trying to watch a show.
If you do manage to identify the Paramount+ servers that are causing the problem, please post the information here.
Thank you . . .
Yeah, found a bunch: cbsinteractive.hb.omtrdc.net, saa.cbsi.com, s-video.innovid.com, etc., which I added to my whitelist. Finally after adding pubads.g.doubleclick.net, it would start, play 1 ad, then stop at the next ad. Too difficult to whitelist, and I ain't going to whitelist doubleclick.net. I'll just disable my ad blocker if I watch Paramount+ on our Roku, which I can do from my iPhone. I ordered Paramount+ on Amazon for 99¢, and FireTV works fine with the ad blocker. Go figure.
So Danny, your response to pop up on paramount plus, (error can’t play, please try again later) is dated a week ago. This is continuing to happen on my Roku. Can’t watch anything on channel. Please fix this problem very soon.
Has this been fixed? We are still having the same issue.
I use the Roku stick and can not watch Paramount +. Sometimes it will start a show, then when it gets to ad break, the ad will play until there is 6 seconds left and I get the “unfortunately an error occurred during playback, try again later” message. This has not happened on every show I watched, but most of them. Sometimes I will get the message while in the middle of streaming the show before ad break, then my Roku restarts….
