Near the end of a show, the screen associated with that show suddenly gets small (i.e., goes to picture-in-picture mode), while the rest of the screen is devoted to an ad for the next episode, or if there is none, to another show. If closed captions are on, it doesn't display then. Then - sometimes while the current episode is still playing, it switches to the next episode, or to the other show.
If I hit the OK button on the remote fast enough (on a Roku Express, and on a Roku Ultra 2019), it goes back to the original show, to the end. But in the mean time, if I have turned on closed captions, I miss a few captions. I've tried hitting the instant replay button to get them again - but it just goes back to the picture-in-picture mode and drops them again.
I understand this is a deliberate feature - that near the end of a show or movie, all you usually see are the credits, though you often also see previews, that I like to see. Also, sometimes a song with words plays at the end - and I want to hear it to the end. Also, on channels like ABC and Hulu, it often does this during the show, because the credits time is often shorter.
Is there a way to turn off this "feature"? I think there should be. I want to be able to see the show to the end, without the interference of this feature, before it does the auto-switch. If I do want to switch, I could always just fast forward to the end.
Try pressing the back key <-, not the replay key?
I tried that.
I went to ABC network's "Switched at Birth" show, S1E1. It went to credits a little after 44:00, then went into picture-in-picture mode shortly after.
I hit OK to make it full screen, then hit the back key.
It did NOT rewind a few second and keep the image full screen, with captions, as I would have wanted. Instead it went back to listing available episodes.
So, thanks for the suggestion. but no dice. 😞
Oops. My mistake. That episode never went to picture-in-picture mode.
But I think Back always just goes back to the list of episodes, doesn't it?
