My streaming stick has been invaded by sling.

Jump to solution

I'm having issues with a pop up that interferes with my operating my device. I don't have sling, and after this annoyance I won't. I've tried removing the app. Doesn't help.  It keeps popping up asking me to switch.   How do I make it go away.   I really don't want to reset to factory settings.   I have an app for my cable provider that is no longer available.   Any suggestions?

Do you have a SlingTV shortcut button on your remote?  It may be stuck/sticky or even faulty.  On one of remotes with Sling button, sometimes using the navigating arrow buttons will somehow inadvertedly trigger Sling to start installing.  I simply uninstall it when it attempts it.  Maybe try giving the remote a little cleaning.

Others have reported that certain screensavers (those with embedded ads) will also affect channels automatically installing.  Try using default Roku screensaver if your issue.

As to your other question, a little unclear what you needed re: the cable provider app.

Thanks for your quick response.   You were absolutely right.   I removed the batteries and used the app on my phone and it works perfectly.   Ordering a Replacement remote now.  Not sure how  to clean it.  It never occurred to me that a shortcut key could be stuck. I've never used them.
