MLBTV freezing during commercials

Hi, did you ever figure out how to fix this? i am having the same issue on multiple devices

Nope, sorry. I haven't been watching much this Spring Training, so I'm not sure if it's still an issue. Guess I'll find out come opening day!

I'm having this exact same issue. Every commercial break it freezes and then eventually says network connection issue. Then I have to restart the app. Upon restarting the app I have no choice to go to live and it starts from the beginning and I have to fast forward to the live. Horrible experience.

It looks like your MLB TV experiences freezing when during commercials, and we're here to help!

Can you try these fixes below and see if they'll do the trick?

  1. Remove the channel: Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press Star to open the Options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
  2. Restart your Roku device: Go to Settings > System > Power > System restart > Restart Now.
  3. Re-install the channel: After your Roku device restarts, visit the Roku Streaming Store and add the channel again.

I have followed those instructions several times. The MLB app is buggy. I have never experienced this poor of an experience on any other Roku app. This is happening on many different Roku devices. I have two different Roku TVs where it is happening and also a Roku ultra where the same thing keeps happening. I have no other way to watch Guardians this year and paid for an MLB subscription. I am a senior software developer who has been in the industry for 13 years, I am not a lay person when it comes to this sort of thing. The app is subpar.

I have also followed these steps and still have the issue.     It is not specific to ROKU, i have the same issue on my ROKU, PS5, and LG Smart TV.    The issue is fully with the MLB app, and how the stream works with the commercials.    if i am watching a live stream, i can fully expect it will freeze up when going to commercial break.     If i watch an older stream it still does it, but not every commercial break.

Yes that has been my experience as well. I t definitely has something to do with how they transition to commercials. I have contacted MLBTV support and a case has been created, but I have not heard from anyone yet. If I get anywhere with it I will update this thread.

Can you share the details of the Roku device with us? That’ll help us look into this more.

  • Roku device model, Device ID, Serial Number, and Software version (It can be found in Settings > System > About)
  • Tracker ID (Press Home five times then press Back button five times)
  • App build version (Highlight the app from the Home Screen and press the Star * Button)
