I had been trying to locate all of the independent channels that used to be offered on ROKU, e.g., tai chi, language learning, travel channels, et al. After not being able to locate them through ROKU, I came here and was given suggestions on searching for the on ROKU to no avail.
I did a search and found this:
“As of February 2025, Roku has discontinued the use of private or non-certified channels, replacing them with beta channels and the Independent Developer Kit (IDK). This change means that previously available private channels, which could be added using specific access codes, are no longer supported on Roku devices.
For users seeking additional content beyond the official Roku Channel Store, Roku now encourages developers to utilize the IDK for creating and testing channels. While this shift enhances platform security and compliance, it also means that the extensive lists of private channels and their access codes previously found online are now obsolete.
To explore new and diverse content, users are advised to regularly check the Roku Channel Store, which offers a wide array of official channels across various genres. Additionally, keeping an eye on Roku's official announcements and developer forums can provide insights into upcoming channels and features made available through the IDK.
For more information on this transition and how it affects channel availability, you can refer to Roku's official communications or trusted tech news outlets.”
