Hey, I've been having issues with my apps for the past month (since the last update).
Basically, if I let an app sit until it gets to the screensaver, I have severe sound and video issues. For example, these are my most used apps:
Paramount +: I can't get video or sound. The only fix I can think of is to reset my Roku.
Disney+: Same issue, except just exiting the app usually fixes it.
Hulu with Live TV: If I let it go to the screensaver, the back button will exit the app completely. Again, I have to reset my Roku to fix it.
I have the Roku Premiere (3920x).
EDIT: A workaround is to exit the app and I don't have problems. It seems if the screensaver goes active on the home screen, the apps are unaffected by this glitch.
What screen saver are you using? Have you tried changing to a different screen saver?
I'm using Matrix-esque, and no I haven't but that's a good suggestion. However, Hulu has its own screensaver.
Edit: It didn't work.
Anybody?
I gotta say, this site isn't very helpful. I really wish I knew how to fix this issue. Hopefully the next update will, since the last one messed it up.
Model: 3920x - Roku Premiere
Software version: 10.0.0 build 4195-91
Not sure if I should post my serial number or Device ID.
Also, I've tried changing screensavers, clearing the cache, restarting it, and unplugging it/plugging it back in. I'm not sure what else there is to try.
It could be the latest 10 update, or the need for the Channels being affected needing to update their programming to accomodate the Roku 10 update. Good idea to let the individual Channels like Paramount and the others know the issues you are having, especially since occuring while in apps and using in-app screensavers.
You can try doing a manual System Update. This updates both the OS and installed Channels (easy way to update all channels at same time). Settings...System...System Update.
Otherwise, I think you will have to continue your workaround fix. (Exit apps rather than allowing the screensaver to wreak havoc). At least until someone releases a patch, whether Roku or the Channel developers themselves. (they may not even know a problem exists unless a user alerts them to it).
I was already planning on calling Hulu but hadn't gotten around to it yet, so I called them and they're having a similar issue, where the app exits for no reason (without the screensaver).
They had me delete the app and reinstall it and also power cycle the roku, TV and modem. Sadly, nothing worked.
I know this post is over a year old, but I had a similar issue and found a way to fix this (here's the link also found below). I knew all about the Hulu crashing issue, and thankfully that has been resolved; I want to thank you for calling them and helping to get this fixed even though they gave you the runaround. I gave you a Kudo for that because I know how annoying it is to deal with Hulu's customer service, but you did end up helping with that.
Basically, this in-channel screensaver glitch happened again with OS 11, and your issue was strikingly familiar to what happened to me and others with this recent update. You should have received a patch by now with a system update since Roku finally fixed this newest in-channel screensaver issue, but those of us who have Micro-SD card slots in our Roku devices were left behind and weren't able to get the patch that was silently rolled out.
I Googled and saw that your Roku Premiere doesn't come with a Micro-SD card slot like mine, so if you're still having issues, or have future issues with this, just skip the SD card part (unless I'm wrong). I've just seen that no one has come up with a solution to this, so I'll post my link in any thread I find with this unresolved issue. Hence, no more people have problems with this if you or anyone in the community still has a similar issue and can't find the thread my post is on.
I'm thinking that with every OS update, I'll just redo the steps I posted in my link to solve any wrinkles that may come up. So you might find this to be helpful even if you don't have this issue currently, as this may just help your Roku run smoother and/or faster since this resets certain aspects of the Roku that may be unknowingly broken after an OS update. This doesn't hard reset it, so you don't lose your passwords, settings, and channel placement when doing this. Actually, come to think of it, I'm going to do this with all my Roku devices to see if it helps speed them up because the older ones have gotten noticeably slower with every OS update and this greatly sped up my Roku 3. I have no idea if it will speed things up in my Roku devices that don't have Micro-SD card slots, but it's worth a try.
I hope this helps you or someone out there who needs this fixed, as this is a recurring glitch. So here's a link to my post:
