HBO Max endlessly scrolls three dots at the bottom of the screen

Jump to solution

Trying to watch HBO Max and when I try to play something it just endlessly scrolls three dots at the bottom of the screen with the screen switching from purple to black to purple, but never gets anyway. No other channels are having issues that I can find.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

If you are experiencing playback issues with HBO Max, it is likely from a failed automatic update. Follow the instructions below to manually check for software and channel updates:

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll up or down and select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select System update.
  5. Select Check Now to manually check for updates.

For full information on this, you can take a look at this link: How do I update the software on my Roku® streaming device?

Let us know if there's any difference after.

All the best,
Kariza

I had done this already, and it did not work. However, it is now working again.

Same here ... verified same behavior on 2 roku devices. Tried signing out/in, removing/adding app and resetting roku ... but no joy. Also verified HboMax app works fine on iPhone.

My hbomax is stuck in the loop. I have checked system updates and even unplugged tv. My roku tv is the only place app does not work.

It isn't a Roku problem. HBO Max is down on all devices. Thus, it is an HBO problem. Note the date on the original post (May 25, 2021, a week before this post). It was down then (on all devices) as well. It will probably go down again in a week, ON ALL DEVICES, for about an hour (or three... yeah it sucks but that's life).

For what it's worth, my Roku has a hit-or-miss connection , and my Xbox a better one, but neither one (at this particular minute) can do it perfectly. I will guarantee that in a hour though both will work.

You guys really ought to learn how to do a web search...

Same here, it's stuck.  I click on HBO Max and it shows the HBO Max start up screen then shifts to black with an endless 3 dot scroll and that's it. Never goes beyond it.

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling , updating etc. still no joy.

Works fine on my phone and chromecasted to TV but I like the ease and Roku interface so much more.

Wish someone had a solution...
