Exiting youtube tv takes a while

For the last month or 2 when exiting youtube tv the screen goes blank, Pressing the home button will bring back the Roku menu after a delay.

This is happening on both of our Roku Ultras.

Re: Exiting youtube tv takes a while

I notice regular issues with exiting YT and have to press the Home button after getting a black screen. I've reported this before but nothing has been done to correct it..Such is life with the Roku Ultra, LOL

Re: Exiting youtube tv takes a while

Hi @bobbee,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention regarding your experience on YouTube TV. We may ask: What have you done so far to resolve the issue? Have you tried to remove and add back the affected channel?

In some cases, removing the channel and then reinstalling it may help. To ensure the process is successful, follow the steps below, making sure you restart your Roku device before adding the channel again.

  • Remove the channel. Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press the Star button on your Roku remote to open the Options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
  • Restart your Roku device: Home > Settings > System > Power. "If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step." System restart.
  • Reinstall the channel. Visit the Roku Channel Store and add the channel again.

Let us know how it goes and if there's anything else that we can further look into.

All the best,

Chel

Re: Exiting youtube tv takes a while

Hi @bobbee @jontalk,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

Thanks for letting us know about this issue, and we do apologize for the delay in response regarding this.

We'd like to see more of what's going on here. Does this issue only occur on this specific channel? If you restart the system, does that fix the problem that you're having?

In addition, Have you also tried uninstalling the channel and making sure to restart your device before adding it back to see if this resolves the issue?

Tell us more about this so that we can further look into it.

Regards,

Rey

Re: Exiting youtube tv takes a while

I reported the YT issue months ago after the first build of OS 12 and its yet to be resolved. Periodically when viewing content on YT, when I click Exit the App (bottom selection), instead of returning to the Home screen, the desktop is black. Clicking the Home button is the only way to continue. From what I can see the YT channel is lagged behind others with updating. That said, the failure to exit properly is intermittent rather than happening all the time. And this is the ONLY app that fails to exit properly. And yes, I've removed, power cycled and installed it again, but it does not solve the problem. Its a minor bug so its not a big deal

Re: Exiting youtube tv takes a while

@RokuEReyIts clear to me that the exiting issue is tied to the AMOUNT/time invested watching content. In other words, if I log into the app and watch for 5-10 minutes it exits properly. BUT if I watch 20-30 minutes or more, exiting the app results in a black screen and the only way to get to the desktop is by pressing Home on the remote. This has been going on since the release of OS12. And yes, I've removed the app, power cycled and replaced it several times, but the problem persists. As a former tech exec, it seems obvious there's a YT server problem and a channel update might help

Re: Exiting youtube tv takes a while

I am experiencing the same issue with YT TV. A short usage seems to allow a proper exit, but an extended usage results in the black screen.

This has happened on rare occasions with the YouTube app as well.

Re: Exiting youtube tv takes a while

Hi Community Users,

We appreciate you updating us here in the Roku Community!
You can check out this support article here on how to solve a channel playback issue. If the issue persists on one channel after attempting the troubleshooting steps and videos from other channels play fine, we highly suggest that you contact the channel provider's customer support team to report the issue and get help. The channel developers themselves maintain channels on Roku. In this case, an issue within that specific channel may need to be addressed with an update from them.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help you.
All the best,
Eunice
