But if Roku is not involved with app development, which is unlikely since the apps are being developed for their proprietary platform, Roku would still have access to the developers that users do not have. That's the frustration for most here is that this problem began with the last update of the app several weeks ago. The ESPN app on all other platforms still have the feature in question.
Continue watching is on ESPN+ on the ESPN app. that I use on my laptop and phone. It has the services that disappeared on the ESPN app I get through Roku on my TV. FYI yes, Roku can change the ESPN app by updating or reinstalling it. I believe that's what they have done but they don't know how to fix it.
@pokeythebear, sorry, as a developer I can tell you that's just not how it works. You need to hammer ESPN about this. Roku can't possibly affect their app in the way you're suggesting. You can't compare apps on other platforms since they're completely different animals.
I am not the developer you are but the experts I have talked to said yes indeed, Roku can
I take my hockey watching very seriously and I don't like missing games because a provider screwed up. The experts I've talked to said Roku can update the app as well as reinstall it, which might cause the kinds of problems we customers are experiencing. There are 3 big corporations involved in this situation; ESPN, Roku and Disney. They should've gotten together and resolved this for their customers.
Here is my workaround: (I'm only following one team whose name fortunately doesn't show up in any of the other sports they cover) Plug that name into Search and all the upcoming and replay games will show up most with two entries that look the same - one is home and other road broadcasts. You have to just start playing one to figure out which is which - or use a TV app or other device which still keeps the partially watched list.
If you have the Disney Bundle, you can use either the Hulu or Disney Plus app on Roku to watch ESPN + replays. I find the Disney Plus app seems to work a little better for me than the Hulu one, but that's what I've been doing as a workaround since the continue watching lists on both of them still work. And the nice thing is you can save the replays to your watchlist on Disney Plus (and Hulu, too, I believe), but you'd still have to use the ESPN app for non-ESPN + content, though. I do like being able to save any ones that I'm interested in to watch later. It'd be nice if ESPN had that so I didn't constantly have to do search to remember which one I wanted to watch from a few days ago. There is so much content to wade through.
There's a lot of gobbledegook going on here by folks I thought were employees of Roku. I'm supposed to look up the channel provider for Power Play On Demand? I have no clue as to what you are talking about. For 5 years I have paid and watched espn+ through Roku. Now I pay Disney, and Power Play on Demand, along with Continue Watching have been removed from Roku but are still operating on ESPN on my laptop & phone. 1000 games are streamed, according to the ad, but Roku has removed our ability to see them all, if we wish. Are we being taken advantage of? Does anyone in the Roku Community know about class action law suits? Are we in the middle of a corporate war of some sort? Please, Roku, tell me who my channel provider is.
Best Wishes
All I know is, I have two Samsung TV's that I have the ESPN+ app on, and the continue watching "List" or Section" for games you start watching and then stop in the middle, still appear and still work exactly as they should. You click on the game and it starts streaming right where you left off.
I bought a TCL Roku during the Christmas time period... (I Could have purchased a similar TCL TV model with the Google TV OS installed, now I am wishing that I did go with Google), but went Roku and for about a week the ESPN+ operated exactly the same. Then, the latest App version pushed out and and the continue watching feature disappeared from the ROKU OS only. Samsung OS is still fine and as others have pointed out, continue watching is still operable and available. So I have a really hard time believing that is the fault of the ESPN folks. If it is, then I believe Roku should be able to resolve the situation quickly. Which has not happened. Therefore, it would appear at least on the surface it is an issue that Roku has to address.
Seems like a few of us engaged in this thread are hockey fans, and it is a super helpful feature to be able to watch portions of the hocket game and then pickup where you last left off without having to dig deep into the system to retrieve the game you would like to resume watching...
Here is a screen shot from loading ESPN+ through a web browser showing "
