Can you still make custom screensavers?

I have seen a couple of tutorials about how to use the app to achieve this, but the app no longer appears to have such an option. Has this feature been discontinued? Or is my model incompatible maybe?

There are screensavers that let you choose the Pictures in a rotating

flash kind of thing but I forget which ones they are.

Yes, you can still make "custom screensavers", no, it hasn't been discontinued, yes, is it model dependent.

No, this functionality is not really documented anywhere, yes, its another support failing from Roku.

Specifically you can use the "mobile screensaver" to make a custom screensaver using photos from your mobile device - but this is only available for 4K models.

Using the Roku mobile app, when you connect to a device and choose the "cast" (media) icon, there is an additional "screensaver" option available for 4K devices.

You can then select  photos/images you want to display as the screen saver and options (pan and zoom, speed) for their display.

Once you do that, simply selecting the "mobile screensaver" (which only appears on 4K devices) as a screensaver option on the Roku device itself sets that as the screensaver.

Re: Can you still make custom screensavers?

Thanks for the explanation, I’m trying to figure that out before buying a new device. Is there a limit to how many images I can use in my custom screensaver? For example, with Apple TV I can use an album from iCloud which can literally have thousands of photos. Could I do the same with the roku app?

Don't know the specific limit, but they do have to be accessible on the device from the Roku mobile app, and pictures have to be individually selected/added from within detected folders/groups, and each pic seems take to take up 1-3% of available depending on size/quality.

Re: Can you still make custom screensavers?

You are freaking kidding me. I have to buy another device when there’s absolutely nothing wrong with my current Roku ultra just so I can make a custom screen saver?

this is wrong on wrong on soooooooo many levels.

ok if this is truly the case, I will figure something out. And you can bet my solution will surely not involve buying another Roku device.

@DKSteele

Your Ultra (model # unknown, which is 4K) supports custom screensavers (Mobile Screensaver).

However, the Mobile Screensaver seems to have been removed for now (this may be an attempt to address a memory load issues with non-4K devices).  Roku has made no statement regarding its fate.

You should contact them if you were using it and lost it.

Regardless of that, I recommend a multiplatform streaming strategy (at least 3 different streaming platforms, one of which is Android/Android TV-based for the purpose of sideloading apps).
