I really wanted a smart TV but my mother talked me into a Roku. I'm so unimpressed with it. Where is YouTube and Daily Motion? Bet i bash this one and send it to you in pieces if I can't watch YouTube or HBO max on it. I'll just take the loss.
Sounds like the device needs a hard reset and relink/reinstall channels, and also a forced update.
Bigger more complex apps sometimes break or have their saved data get corrupted and won't start anymore until a reset (and install fewer channels on low end devices).
Others have reported similar issues with YT now and again.
I had a "channel crashes device" issue with BBC iPlayer app on older express a while back, fixed with hard reset, update, reinstall.
Just go to channels part of Roku menu and install YouTube and HBO? Takes only a few seconds? Unsure about daily motion but most smarttv won't have that.
Roky better than smart TV as there are more channels and less likely to be desupported because TV is too old.
Only cheaper approach is a screen mirroring dongle (i e. Miracast) and stream to big screen from laptop or phone
I'm know how to add channels to my roku devices. HBO Max and YouTube are already installed, they just won't load. Takes you right back to the home screen. Roku has deleted YouTube TV, so that is just gone for now, unless they can agree on who gets what from the deal.

Did a hard reset, Uninstalled reinstall. Reset router, why I don't know. I am using a Roku Express 2 and it seems to be the only thing with the issue. My Hisense Roku TV in the other room loads fine. I'll just disconnect it for now and run my desktop computer on it as an oversized monitor I guess. You really shouldn't have to find a workaround for a device you payed for just to continue to get the same service you started out with.
I couldn't get the device to cooperate yesterday during the factory reset, but was able to do it today. A factory reset did the trick. Now it works, but when I come here to make a comment, my whole screen is taken up by a huge Microsoft Edge ad, so I don't know if I'm typing right or not. I literally can't make it go away
