I updated and restarted from roku systems and so far the problem has stopped.

I have same issues.  Watching Netflix movie or  program and it reverts back to the home screen.  Also, I got HBO MAX and installed it yesterday.  I see the content, hit OK and play, commercial tries to play 2 or 3 times then gone, nothing.  More more then 6 seconds of continuely starting ad.  Can't watch a movie, but I can watch complete movie trailers.  WTH??  Thats all I can watch.

Honestly, at this point it looks like just switching to another service like Google TV is the best and only option.
Oh, and addition to being booted out of most of my Roku apps, the problem also prevents me from using my new Roku sound bar with my tv. The sound bar only works with Roku. Which means I hardly ever get to use the sound bar that I paid for. The sound bar issue started exactly after the most recent Roku update.


Yea, I'm more than frustrated.  How many hundreds of people here are complaining for several months and nothing has been fixed.  I really don't know if anyone still works in Roku's Customer Service department.  Smiley Mad

I am so sick of dealing with this. I was using a streaming stick for a couple of years and received notice that it would no longer work with Amazon Prime. Meanwhile, like so many others have reported, Roku had started bouncing me back to the home screen, but only with a couple of channels I rarely watch. In order to retain Amazon reception, I received an offer to buy a new streaming device at half price. I bought it and installed it. At first, it worked fine. Then it turned into the kind of thing you might use to torture laboratory rats in a scientific study of behavior modification.

So, being a desperate Roku rat.....I decided to re-install the out-of-date stream stick. It works great! Except, of course, it does bounce me back to the home screen now and then. And I can't view Amazon Prime at all. Oh....and I can't install Apple+, which I've been watching a lot. So now I have a laptop on the table next to my TV, so I can watch stuff there. I'm actually paying for this!

This is an insane situation. I do not believe for one minute that this torture is something only "a small subset" of users is experiencing. There is nobody reliable to talk to, just zombies watching the rats go crazy, throwing out mainly useless remedies to make us go crazier. Since I now have two devices that don't work completely, I am going to have to buy another and I would be a very dumb rat if I didn't switch to another company.

Have a very holly jolly Xmas, Roku.

I was having this problem. I was also having a problem with certain apps intermittently not playing the audio. To fix the audio issue, I went to Settings, Audio and then set both the Audio Mode and Digital Output Format to Stereo (as opposed to Auto). Since I did this, I haven’t had any issue with the audio or with the Roku returning to the Home Screen.  Could be a coincidence but might be worth a shot.

Same, Roku Ultra user here. HBO max app won't let me play any of its content. Kicks me out right after I click on the play icon

I found if you still have this issue after resetting everything once you get onto something that you want to watch take out the batteries of your remote and it won’t return you to the Home screen

Mysteriously, Roku stopped bootting me from Amazon Prime and PBS for three days. But once again today it's botting me out of Prime. Amazon is still working, for now. Why would the issues disappear for three days, on a single app, and then come back?
