First I updated the ESPN app again. No difference.
Then in settings (gear icon top right of ESPN home screen menu) I noticed it did no show me as being logged into my ESPN account, so I logged in there. I had no idea of its password so I had to reset this first. Still made no difference.
My tv provider account is with Directv. I noticed that the Spanish language programs that didn't give the error showed my provider account up in the top right corner (when playback paused) as Atlantic Broadband -- I have AtlanticBB as my internet provider, but I dropped my tv cable with them maybe 5 years ago. So I went back into Settings and verified that it DID show I was logged into my tv provider account at Directv. What the hey?? I logged out of my tv provider account then logged back in and re-authorized for Directv - I think this was the magic bullet.
Now I can log into everything except the ESPN+ items (I don't have an ESPN+ account) now. And I checked the Spanish language versions and now they show Directv instead of AtlanticBB too.
