Completely useless question. Many channels are free, some are subscription. But price is immaterial if the channel doesn't offer content you want.
So, what are you looking for? There's tons available on YouTube for free, just have to deal with an occasional ad. Many other sites are also free with ads, such as The Roku Channel, which offers some pretty good content. Some channels require a monthly subscription, and the price might vary based on limited or no ads. CBS All Access is one example there.
Vudu is free, but you either rent or purchase titles from them. They also are a source for digital versions of titles you have purchased on disc and registered (also Movies Anywhere, Google Movies, Apple TV, and Amazon), although if you purchased a 4K/UHD version it might not be available in 4K from all of them.
Amazon Prime offers many titles for free to Prime members, so it's an additional perk along with the free shipping they offer. Additional titles can be rented or purchased.
Some channels are only available if you have a TV provider you can use as registration. Examples of providers are cable or satellite companies, also YouTube TV or Sling TV, both of which require a subscription.
