my channels closing by themselves

anytime i’m watching tv on my roku after a couple hours the channel i’m using closes on it’s own and takes my back to my home screen. is that normal?

Do you have "Bandwith saver" enabled?  Check under Settings->Network.  When enabled it will stop streaming after 4 hours.  Even with it disabled some channels will ask if anyone is watching and will close if there's not a response to the prompt.
