FWIW - My few subscriptions were made directly with the channel, not through Roku. This started with Netflix and Amazon Prime, before you could subscribe to other options through the Roku channel. This still makes sense to me as there is only one entity for each channel that has to keep its records straight, rather than two (where Roku is acting as an agent for the channel being subscribed to) thus doubling the opportunity for screw-ups.
