accessing HBO Max on computer

Jump to solution

This issue has come up before, but I want to make sure the limitations of purchasing channels through Roku before I switch, and Roku's customer service rep referred me to HBO, whose reps were unfamiliar with the issue.

I've purchased an HBO Max subscription through Roku's channel store. Does this mean I'm not able to watch HBO Max content on my laptop (i.e., not a Roku device) since I don't have an account at HBO Max and can't have one without subscribing and paying at their site? If this is the case, what is the advantage of purchasing a subscription to HBO Max through Roku? It doesn't offer a price advantage, and it limits rather than expands access to purchased channels.

You understand the situation perfectly.   The only advantage I can see for subscribing through Roku, or any other 3rd party, is paying your subscriptions through a common source instead of having to keep track of a bunch of separate accounts.

If you want to view a premium service through a variety of platforms, subscribe directly with the service via its website.

Thanks very much for the quick & clear reply. I'll be purchasing subscriptions directly from the content source in the future.
