No Peacock TV

Jump to solution

Where is my Peacock TV channel?!!!  Well it’s October 3, 2020 and even though the Roku blog says you can now download Peacock TV you cannot. I’m tired of waiting so I guess I’m getting rid of my Roku’s.

Re: 3710X Player - NO PEACOCK & ROKU Still has no REAL LIVE SUPPORT!!!

Jump to solution

Nbc determines what models of roku devices get the new Peacock app, 3710 express+ is too old. There has been two newer generations of express+ since yours.

Still is.

However, Roku supports the device, not the Peacock app.

Apps are supported by the app maker, not the device maker, on virtually every app platform, including Roku.

NBCUniversal supports the Peacock app (its their app, developed/coded/etc), and they don't support the Peacock app on the 3710:

Roku:
Roku 2 (4210X model only)
Roku 3 & 4 (model 4200X or later)
Roku Streaming Stick (model 3600X or later)
Roku Express/Express+ (model 3900X or later)
Roku Premiere/Premiere+ (model 3920X or later)
Roku Ultra/Ultra LT (model 4640X or later)
Roku TV and Smart Soundbar (model 5000X or later)

Roku, you must point out to Roku owners that Peacock is only available on the more recent models. So when you say "available now", add "on selected models".

Except that Roku isn't the channel/app provider - NBCUniversal is, and its their app design/code that has the model-level limitation (NBCUniversal chose to limit what devices their app could/would run on), not Roku.

Furthermore, app developers can/do update their apps, eventually excluding older devices from updates that cannot run newer versions of the app (e.g. NetFlix, Prime, Hulu et al have all done this on the Roku platform and will continue to do this).  In other words, every major streaming service app currently listed in the app store has model-level limitations (they arent available for/wont run on older Roku models).

This is an issue to direct to NBCUniversal, not Roku:

Was able to add peacock, but only far audio on previews, not when the actual program or movie is selected.
