Re: HBO Max app crashes when playing certain content

Jump to solution

Mine did the same, only I tried streaming from my iPad or iPhone. I could stream, download, and connect just fine, but when I tried to mirror it would disconnect and 5e only way I could reconnect was to reset my router. Try changing your wireless channels, if that doesn’t work, I’m gonna say it has something to do with your Windows 10 configuration for mirroring.

Hey @Emidemi11

Thanks for letting us know about the issue you're experiencing.

We would recommend starting with removing the channel then re-install it back in. To ensure the process is successful, follow the steps below making sure you restart your Roku device before adding the channel again.

  1. Remove the channel: Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press the Star button to open the options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.

    • Note: If you are removing a subscription channel billed to your Roku account, you must cancel the subscription before you see the Remove channel option. For help identifying this type of subscription channel, read the detailed article about removing a channel.

  2. Restart your Roku device: Restart the device from the settings menu. Go to Settings > System > System restart > Restart.

  3. Re-install the channel: After your Roku device restarts, visit the Roku Channel Store and add the channel again.

    • Note: If you are adding a subscription channel billed to your Roku account, you will need to resubscribe.

Let us know how it goes!

All the best,
Kariza

TRIED TOO MANY TIMES TO FIX

TOO MANY EMAILS & CALLS TO MAX  (A WASTE OF TIME & MONEY)

Re: HBO Max keeps freezes - then crashes back to home screen

I can't say why some users have issues with HBO Max on their Roku devices. I use it regularly on my Ultra 4800, which of course is the latest/greatest player. However, I also tested my older Ultra 4640 yesterday to see if it behaved differently. The 4640 is getting close to 5 years old now, so far from the most powerful device Roku sells. To my surprise, it worked satisfactorily on it as well. It did have a hair of a lag when it first loaded, but played a 4K/HDR movie without issue. I last tried Max on my Nvidia Shield (a far more powerful and expensive player), and it's still completely unusable.

HBO has terrible app developers, and they don't seem to be getting any better. Unfortunately, it's HBO's problem to resolve. All Roku can do is work behind the scenes and try to get HBO to fix their channel. Just a guess on my part, but I expect that is already happening. But they have no power over them to make it happen.

HBO Max won't launch – crashes back to home screen

Jump to solution

the same exact thing has been happening to me repeatedly. there needs to be direct assistance and not faq's and forums (which read like an online support group) this is a unacceptable business model. I have the Roku Express and it has worked fine for nearly 3 years. If i need to update, I will certaintly do that on the condition that there will be no connection problems and no more channels freezing. as of last week, it has been telling me I am disconnected and I first called my internet provider twice, restarted my router, put in my wifi code etc. etc. this is becoming extemely annoying. there needs to be direct help for this kind of stuff. I would like to speak to a representative.

I own three ROKU devices.  Man !  I’ve always thought that they were the greatest thing since sliced bread and well worth their cost.  UNTIL RECENTLY . Only one device gets HBO Max w/o a problem. The stick has these freezes and you have to go through that back door method and one won’t even download the HBO app..

—- So I will ask this straight up.

If I buy a new ROKU stick will I be able to get HBO Max , Peacock and Apple TV without a problem ?

This has been the case since HBO Max first came on ROKU in December.  Customer Service has offered these remedies, but to my knowledge none has consistently worked for anyone.  It’s 7 months now.  It is NOT going to get fixed on these older devices.  If anyone has experience to the contrary please correct me.  I give up.  It just a matter now if I buy a new ROKU or I try out a Firestick.

All I can say is HBO Max works just fine on all of my Ultra players, my Premiere, my new Express 4K+, and while I haven't tested it in a while it worked fine on my Sharp Roku TV. I have never tried it on my low end Insignia Roku TV, as that one is in the guest bedroom. I've never tried Peacock, and I don't subscribe to Apple TV so can't speak about their offerings. But I can access any of my iTunes purchases through it. But I can get the same access from Movies Anywhere, Vudu, Google Movies and Prime Video (they are all linked through Movies Anywhere), so it's not a channel I use often.

Re: HBO Max keeps freezing - can't watch anything

I took the advice and let HBOMAX Home Screen load for a few minutes.  I was able to watch my show without freezing up.
