Using an AcornTV gift subscription

I'm considering the purchase of a Roku device in order to use an AcornTV gift subscription that I received. However, I'm not certain that is possible without subscribing to some sort of Roku service. I simply want to access the AcornTV channel and apply my gift subscription credentials there.
