Roku website says you can Stream Live TV "including ABC, MTV....." but nowhere to be found

Roku website says you can stream ABC live (and many more, see below) but nowhere to be found.  The Roku Channel live tv guide does not have any of the major networks advertised and the only way to get ABC is to get the ABC channel which is not free. How can they say make the statement if not true?

Streaming Now: Live TV

Catch breaking news, sports, award shows, live events, current network TV, and more the moment it airs on any of your favorite channels, including ABC, MTV, the CW, Freeform, ESPN, CNN, and Nickelodeon.

I'm not sure what you think is not true but here is MTV, and here is one of multiple abc channels. Either or both of these may also be available in packages from SlingTV, Hulu etc.

The ABC app is free but is locked and you have to pay to watch.

Yes.  Some channels are free and some are not. Roku does not restrict content providers or viewers to a single business model.

Sounds like good buddy Stregs draws his paycheck from RokuFooldU

”doesn’t restrict to one business model”

Sounds like “marketing speak” to me

Stregs pretty good at dancing on the head of a pin with response ... tippy towed right around the legal potholes

Go Stregs !

LOL. I think the OP was confused by something on the website, though I'm not sure what, or perhaps there is some other wording on the website that does say that some specific thing is free.  If so, maybe someone can post it here.

ie: Just because you can stream Netflix on a Roku, does not mean that having a Roku makes Netflix free.  That's more like sitting on a chair that is on the surface of a planet than dancing on a pin.  Smiley Happy

Yet these are ALL available.  Your beef apparently, is that they are not all available without a paid subscription in one form or another (either directly or as a cable/satellite provider account).  Please point out where it says they will be free.

If someone says free, repeat FREE, which is how RoastU promotes themselves in MANY places for the major networks and it costs you a subscription... its not a “beef” - it’s misrepresentation... in fact it’s classic “bait and switch”.

ok - enough about that - if you’ve got something else to add please bag it and drag it

wanna help ? Ok. The way you receive abc, nbc, and or cbs for FREE is to connect an antenna - why didn’t someone just say that 🤷‍♂️

ok. So which antenna? It’s a jungle ... seems no relationship between cost and performance: Indoor ones with kazillion mile range for low bucks. Outdoor ones for big bucks with LESS performance(range).
obviously there’s a flaw in that slaw - that is - a lot of them are blowing smoke up your **bleep**.

I prefer indoor and the caveat is : our house is located in a communications hole - at least as cell reception goes. Phones barely work in house. Don’t work outside ( down a little lower) until get about half mile from house - in any direction.
house is 20 miles from Manchester NH

42 miles from downtown Boston

not in a valley

Relatively high/higher terrain ( go downhill in any direction from home)

Re: Roku website says you can Stream Live TV "including ABC, MTV....." but nowhere to be f

Well, the OP included some text from the Roku website which didn't include the word "Free" and the OP seemed to agree that some things were not Free so at least in this case, I don't see the misrepresentation.  If you see it elsewhere, please link to it.  I'm not saying it can't happen - just the OP didn't seem to show any that I could see.

This is not so say the everyone doesn't "accent the positive" in their ads - everyone does.  That said, there really are many entirely free channels on Roku if you are willing to branch out and try some stuff you may have never heard of.

As for antennas, yes, they are a great way to get free TV.  We had one back in the 60s and 70s.  We lived in a flat area and had an antenna with a rotor that was on a tower on the top of our 2 story house and we could pick up local US channels and one channel in Canada that was a couple of hundred miles away.  (Not well, and only when the weather cooperated, but it was VERY cool when it worked!)
