A little dramatic, no? 😏

Why not load your websites on an Android phone or tablet and then cast them to your Roku devices using the Roku Android app? 🙂

@Kmoore123

My guess is that you are a PornHub user. Or user of a similar non-certified app.

You and the VidAngel group should get together for coffee. You have a lot in common, it seems.

VidAngel users are upset that Roku is dropping the app. Only, that's not what's happening. Roku is dropping non-certified apps, and VidAngel is a non-certified app. They are working up their users to complain to Roku rather than get the app certified.

Perhaps you understand better about what's really going on.

Zero reason to bother with roku if your going to stream / cast. way better tech out there. Rokus only real benefit was the customer friendly - open platform. Once this is closed they literally are "third class tech" with a horrible ecosystem. Short the **bleep** out of this stock.

I would be curious to learn what alternatives there would be other than using a web browser or using Kodi on an Android TV box.

Amazon Fire TV Sticks have similar restrictions although Kodi has been side-loaded on them.

Just bought my first three firesticks. They will have access to adult channels being dropped by Roku. Been a roku user since the beginning of Roku.

Why non certified. The system has been working great. Lots of new creative items each month. Roku use to put all the new apps under new apps. Made it more difficult to find. Now Roku is making it difficult for new apps to start. Roku is trying to control everything. Fire Stick Amazon I can go online and Roku is is the dark ages. No internet. I don't believe in censorship of any type. If Donald Trump want a app to sound off. How much I'm opposed to that. He has a right. Roku is getting worse with control and if I stay or leave will be up to Roku, sounds like too many people at Roku has nothing to do. Plus I like finding those secret channels with all types of stuff. images (97).jpeg

That kinda depends on what you call "great." For consumers, sure. But for Roku, nightmares.

There are tons of apps that violate content owners right. You do not have the right to watch someone's content outside of any agreements they've entered with providers.

That content is the result of labors, and the owners of that property have rights. Just like if you built a chair, it's your chair. I can't just come into your house and take your chair because I want to.

If you were an author and wrote a book, I couldn't just come into your office and take your manuscript. And, I couldn't legally just photocopy your manuscript for my purposes without your permission. As a content owner, you have rights.

Being rich and successful does not negate these rights. So if Warner Bros. or Universal creates content, they have rights. And some guy in a garage writing an app that lets others view WB or NBCU content without recompense, he's violating the content owner's rights.

Roku has to deal with these situations on a daily basis. These pirates can't get their apps approved in the Channel Store because they're violating content owners rights. Non-certified apps (nee, private channels) don't get vetted. Roku has to react to these. That costs a lot of money to divert resources from development and approval to remediation.

This change doesn't do away with Beta apps. Those will still be around, so developers can publish non-certified apps, but only for a period of time. What's changed is that people won't be able to just leave it there. It'll have to be certified and published through proper means.

After all, this is what Roku intended with non-certified apps (private channels). They were for developers to try them, work out the bugs, then release them officially. It's others that used for a purpose not intended. And now somebody thinks that's a right. No. It was a violation from the get-go, and Roku tolerated it. The blowback because of how some have acted in the non-certified environment became too much. Roku is now enforcing it. They're adding a time limit. That's all. And time's up for a lot of lazy developers.

Re: Time to sell every roku item I own,

Roku you should pay attention to what customers are saying. If you think this is going to help then it's good by Roku. People are going to leave in mass. Your company will fall for sure with decisions like this I for one will be turning to another platform. Roku you had something that worked why are you changing it and pissing customers off. It makes no since your marketing team should be fired and replaced. I hope your legal team is not busy for a while. By the way I have seen your stocks falling like crazy since this announcement.

The arrogance of Roku to think they should police what people watch makes me sick. I'll never buy another device from them.
