Help & troubleshooting for channels on your Roku device, including adding/removing channels, logging in to, authenticating, or activating a channel, channel-specific playback issues, assistance contacting channel publishers to report issues, and adjusting channel-specific settings.
I work for the IT department at as medium sized company, and we recently opened up an employee fitness center. We installed several TVs and purchased a Roku and subscribed to PSVUE to stream live TV 24/7 for employees to watch. We learned quickly that the device would time out after about 5 hours of run time. To combat this, I followed some information on this forum to create a cURL script that runs against the device over the network from a Windows laptop, and the script basically exits out of PSVUE and then goes back into the App restarting the stream to prevent it from timing. This scrip runs every hour, on the hour and worked flawlessly for almost two months. Now we are running into an issue where the TV channel within PSVUE is getting changed on it's own. We can't pin point exactly how this is happening, but we know it not someone physically changing the channel. After reviewing security footage, we can confirm that the channel changed automatically. Does any body have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Thanks for the help!
Sorry for not clarifying. It happens sometimes...not every time the script is executed. For example, on a Friday, the Roku was left playing HGTV. From Friday evening over the weekend nobody entered the gym until Monday morning when I walked in to check. It was on TruTv. I manually ran the script nearly 20 times trying to replicate the issue, but no luck. I also noticed that it is never the same channel...one day it could be on FX, the next ESPn, then Fox etc...

With the caveat that I'm not familiar with the scripting language -- but I'm decent at troubleshooting -- I'm going to ask you to confirm a couple of things.
Is this script replicating the following: HOME key press (bringing user to the Main Menu) Right key press (bringing focus to the first item of the current row) SELECT key press (launching the first item/app of the current row) SELECT key press (opening the item of focus within that app)
Next, I've got to ask: are you saying that the channel within the PlayStation Vue app is not returning to the last channel played? Or are you saying that you are using the credentials of the PlayStation Vue to authenticate the various apps for channels: HGTV, FX, ESPN, Fox, etc?
Also, and this could just be my not understanding what you're looking to do overall, are you wanting to play *just* HGTV? Or are you fine with offering other channels/apps for watching? Is the issue that the channel isn't what you want to present? Or is it that on the top of the hour, it's changing to an otherwise ok channel, just unexpected?

Basil asks some great questions, and I have one more. Is it possible that the PSVUE app doesn't always have the same channel in the "home" position when you first start the channel? Since I don't use it, I don't know what their interface is like. I'm just theorizing that when your script is starting the channel, perhaps it's actually opening a different channel that you were expecting? Since your script appears to be selecting the first available selection, is it possible that selection changes over time? Maybe when you run the script multiple times not enough time has elapsed for the selection to change. . I just know that when I open say, Netflix, the same movie isn't going to be available at the first position every time.

I use PSVue on 5 different Roku Express devices and each one always goes to the last channel viewed when I fire them up. I have them plugged into the USB port on the TV for power, so the Roku is off when the TV is off. Do you have an uninterruptible power supply on the TV and Roku? Maybe power glitches are causing the channel to change? Line noise?
I would use two Home keypresses, just in case the channel paused, or somehow the video stopped playing, and the Roku screensaver kicked in. The first Home keypress exits the screensaver, the second goes back to the home screen. Then, instead of emulating keypresses to launch the channel, use the ECP launch command:
Note that anyone who has access to your network is able to issue Roku ECP commands to your device regardless of where they're located. They don't have to be physically in front of the TV with the remote to change the channel.
