Ya know, I really think we're saying pretty much the same thing. And I'll leave it at that. Not worth getting into a lather about. I agree that it would be helpful to have access to the video. Remuxing a problematic video has worked for me numerous times, so it's an excellent suggestion.

I seriously am with you on this. Don't take the head butting as anything more than constructive dialog. With access to the video, and even a short sample like I suggested above, we could see an honest answer. Without it, we can just bang our heads into each other for eternity. I do agree. I just didn't want to abandon the mp4 vs mkv discussion. As this makes a perfect, sort of, jumping off point to dive into that discussion without causing too much harm. Just a friendly debate.

ffmpeg -i file.mkv -t 10 file.mp4
Is it possible to share a sample of your problematic mp4 you converted to mkv with us? Using ffmpeg will copy everything, convert back to mp4, and trim to 10 seconds. Even 2 seconds would be fine. Thanks.
