Roku Channel will not play

Jump to solution

The Roku Channel will not play anything. Click, play, it says "loading" for a couple seconds then goes back to the previous screen. Uninstalled, reinstalled, updated. Still doesn't work. Had the same problem with HBOmax a couple months back. Gave up on that because it works fine on my laptop. Everything else, hulu, youtube TV, Parmount+ all work fine. 3920MX Premier, Software 10.5.0, build 4208-91

Roku does not support use of a vpn, and discussion about it is prohibited here on the forum. The Roku Channel is not available in your country, end of discussion.

Given that your model number ends in MX, are you located somewhere other than the US? The Roku Channel is not available outside of the US and Canada.

I own a TCL ROKU TV and the ROKU channel and the two subscriptions I bought will not load on the TV.

@MD7514 Do you live somewhere other than the US or Canada? What subscriptions are you referring to?

I also have this same issue, I live in Canada.  All other services stream without issue, just Roku won’t.  I have removed, re-added, updated, reset entire TCL tv to factory.  I do not have a VPN.

Just bought a Roku in the UK, from the Amazon UK Roku store, and it won't play Roku channel.  It's not connected to any VPN.  Really hope you're not telling us that a UK-bought Roku device won't play Roku content because it's in the UK.

@Frances2325, it looks like UK and Mexico have been added since the last time I checked, so you should be able to get it.

How do I get The Roku® Channel? | Official Roku Support

When you say "won't play", what do you mean exactly?  Can you access it on a computer via the webpage?

https://therokuchannel.roku.com/

It also seems like it's not uncommon for people in the UK to unwittingly set up a US Roku account which can really foul things up.  Do you see the usual UK-only channels/apps like ITVX and Channel 4?
