Retro Tech Time Machine Database Corrupted?

Jump to solution

Joe Screwdriver's Retro Tech Time Machine Channel

Great channel, but noticed for about the last month that if you go searching for a category (airplane, for example), and select a specific video (Plane Talk), a completely unrelated video will play (like "IBM 1401" in this case). It seems like the database is corrupted. Anyone else getting this (or care to test it and post your results)?

Very frustrating.

Thanks.

The update to Retro Tech Time Machine to correct the broken search function has been published. If you already have the channel installed, it should be updated for you automatically. To verify that you have the current version, press the STAR key on your remote while the Retro Tech icon is in focus on your Roku home screen. For the update published today you will see a dialog box containing "Version 4.2 * build 62".

Thanks to Roku's QA team for getting this update published so quickly!

@czar

Thanks for the note.

Try removing the channel from the Roku home screen by navigating to the channel tile, pressing the * key on your remote and choosing 'Remove channel'. Then restart your device from Settings>System>System restart. Once your player starts up again, add the channel back once more.

If the issue remains unresolved, I'd recommend reaching out to the channel provider directly to report the issue and request additional support. Many channels on the Roku platform is developed and maintained by the channel provider directly, and they'll be able to best assist.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks,
Danny

Hi Danny,

Thanks for the suggestion and steps. (Unfortunately it didn't work.) I've not found a way to contact the channel creator. If you have one, please share.

Thank you.

Re: Retro Tech Time Machine Database Corrupted?

Hi Danny,

I am experiencing exactly the same problem as Czar.  I had loaded the Joe Scrrewdriver’s Retro Tech Time Machine sometime last year, and had not visited it lately.  When I tried to access something from the search selections, it loaded some other selection that I had not selected.  It doesn’t appear to be random though, because it always goes to the same video “Testing at Aberdeen”. I thought that I was doing something incorrectly, but after checking on the forum, I see that others are experiencing the same thing.  I was going to contact the developer to ask them the question, but this channel was delveooped by www.instanttvchannel.com.   This site is a location that provides tools to develop Roku Channel software.  How do I go about contacting those who actually created this specific channel?

Hello,

Not a database issue. Actually it's related to a software change made to the channel a few months ago. Sorry I missed this forum posting! The required bug-fix is being processed now, a functional version of in-channel searching should be available later this week if Roku approves the update.

You are correct that Instant TV Channel is a set of developer tools for creating Roku channels. Usually channels built using Instant TV Channel are built & managed by 3rd-party developers who purchase services through Instant TV Channel. But for "Retro Tech Time Machine" Instant TV Channel built & manages the channel, there is no 3rd-party developer.

You can reach me at scott@InstantTvChannel.com if you have any other comments or suggestions for the channel.

Thanks!

I had the chance to connect to the Retro Tech Time Machine ROKU channel last night.  The search feature works fine.  Thanks for the quick fix.  I enjoy the variety of videos you have on this channel.  Looking forward to seeing some new content in the future.  Thanks again.
