ROKU Media Player Channel UI

Using PLEX to stream my personal content to my ROKU TV - but upset that no gapless playback is available.

Have FOOBAR2000 set up as a media server but the ROKU Media Player user interface sucks (after using PLEX) in that you cannot do much of anything to locate specific music files without scrolling through everything.

Is there a ROKU Media Player channel being developed that is user friendly like the one used in PLEX?  Is there another media channel that can be used to play the FOOBAR2000 server?

One of these days PLEX might grow up (gapless playback) but until then  -  HELP!!!!!

Re: ROKU Media Player Channel UI

I found this posted in the OS Software Release Notes for 9.3 but do not see any changes since the update.

A New Interface for Roku Media Player – The Roku Media Player channel’s interface has been updated with a new design that aligns more closely with the broader Roku user interface, including larger visuals and a new display when playing music files for viewing track information and album artwork (if available). The redesigned Roku Media Player channel makes it simple for users to find and play media files, including video, music and photos, when using their Roku device’s USB port (if available) or by accessing a media server on their local network.

Re: ROKU Media Player Channel UI

The new interface is an absolute abomination.

There's no reason to be forcing the tile view. I really wish there was a way to roll this garbage update back, but I guess I'll just move to a different platform.

Re: ROKU Media Player Channel UI

agreed.  I have 100+ movies i have backed up to digital format.  I dont want to scroll through them 4 giant, non-cover art tiles at a time.  give me a file list, search, genre, alphabetized section listing, etc.

You can change it to a file list. As far as genre or other sorts of categories, that's usually under the control of the DLNA server. I use Serviio, and it gives me Titles broken into alphabetical groups, a full list of movies, TV Series in their own group, Playlists in PLS or M3U format, last added, last viewed, and a dozen more that I don't use (actor, director, genre, MPAA rating, etc.). Ans using a DLNA server I have cover art on everything.

You aren't forced to use the tile view. There is a list view you can toggle.

The developers are quite aware of the complaints with the UI. However, they are first concentrating on resolving the functional issues first (have most of them done), then they'll get to work on the UI.

I was told they could not go back to the previous version. They didn't say why, but my guess is the old version used something that Roku was dropping support for, and they had to get something out that complied with the latest standards.

Re: ROKU Media Player Channel UI

that view is just as useless as the tile view, let's face it : new UI Is garbage.

I have successfully moved off of roku, and quite happy with the change.

Sadly, my elderly parents who are not very technical are having issues moving off of it as well, so i'm stuck supporting them and this trash.

Yes, i'm pissed.
