Hello Nowhereman, Thanks for all the goodies. My wife is cambodian and she's wondering if you could add these shoutcast channels (http://www.shoutcast.com/Internet-Radio/khmer)to the world section in your internet radio channel? Might help to get her off my case for spending so much time with roku. Smiley Happy

the Modern/Pop stream is AAC encoded, which the box can't handle. I added the 2 MP3 streams

Hey, is this something your Internet Archive channel (or a newly created one) could feed on? I'd create several of these for ranges of the alphabet if the channel would choke on all 325 present movies in this catagory? I kinda guessed at what you are parsing - if there is something you need that I left out I can add it Smiley Happy. I can host the XML on my server - this one is http://www.aspinock.com/xml/a.xml :
<rss version="2.0" xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/">

this would be the first instance of the RSS being generated by an entity other than the host/owner/publisher of the content. please make sure that any third-party content you include in one of these feeds is either in the public domain or is released under an appropriate creative commons license. with archive.org, this is almost never an issue, but still good to double check.

Couple things as to the RSS itself...
  • the <channel> itself should have a <title> and <image>

  • special characters like the quotes around "hip" need to be properly HTML encoded

Re: A Couple New Channels with More to Come

I've been doing some digging into some of the shoutcast feeds, is it possible to use these to create an actual shoutcast channel? These feeds are constantly being updated by shoutcast.
Basically just type the genres available in this list in the feed field "genre=" portion. http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=rock
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=classical
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=alternative
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=country
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=blues
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=soundtrack
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=Jazz
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=top40
http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml?genre=hiphop etc, etc, etc...
Possible?
Looking at xBMC their feeds start with shout://classic.shoutcast.com
Don't know if that makes a difference.

*edit* looking at it closer, looks like there are no actual links to the stations there. But maybe this will help out anyway. Looks like these are the what's playing now feeds. Actually there is a link embedded there near the header for <tunein base="/sbin/tunein-station.pls"/> so maybe this could work.

such a channel is definitely possible, but it's not something that would work within the architecture of my existing podcast channels. it would be a good weekend project for someone who wanted to develop a channel from scratch.

Re: A Couple New Channels with More to Come

Count me in as another vote for more Fox News content. Seeing that Glen Beck and Bill O'Reilly are the most watched news shows in the US I'm sure this would make many people happy. Smiley Very Happy Thanks for all the content so far.

One bug I've noticed is that the Mad Money episodes are listed in reverse order, so the first episode selected when you choose that show is the oldest one and you have to scroll over to the newest one.

Both these issues can be attributed to the publishers. I've addressed the Fox question before, they choose not to publish many podcasts and those they do have tend not to work. As for CNET, episodes are listed in whatever order the publisher lists them in their podcast feed. the common convention is to list most recent episodes first, but it is not a requirement.
