+1 -- awesome work, Chris! I will be making a donation soon. If you can get all the MSNBC stuff working (their afternoon/evening shows) I will be very happy. They just moved the MSNBC channel here where I live, so I no longer have access to it. This could be a life saver for a politics junky like me. Smiley Wink (Roku, please make that firmware update soon!)

The other channels are great, too. Incredible work and opens a whole new Roku world of fun IMHO. Kudos!

P.S. +1 for the audio only podcasts, too. I really enjoy them and listen to them in the background whilst surfing and posting like now. Smiley Wink

Re: A Couple New Channels with More to Come

Sorry to jump on this thread but hopefully the most knowledgeable people are in here. Is it possible to create a channel like Chris has done on video/podcasts from itunes?

Here is an example from Gentetic Engineering News, they have a video channel:
http://www.genengnews.com/videos/

This page has their feeds:
http://www.genengnews.com/genCasts.aspx

Subscribing kicks me to:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/gen- ... d136899484

I've been unable to locate the raw feed from GEN - seems to link to itunes every time.

Thanks for any input.

yes. pretty much anything in iTunes could be used on the box

if you go ahead and subscribe to a podcast in itunes, you can then right-click it in your subscription list and select "Copy Podcast URL" from the drop down menu. that will place the feed URL in your clipboard. or, if you need feed URLs for a batch of shows, itunes can export your entire podcast subscription list as OPML.

Wow, thx for all these new channels. I'll have to remember to donate when I get the chance.

Also, I don't know if this is asking too much, but would you or anyone else know of how to write an app for ESPN360? Or is streaming a live feed still in alpha stages for Roku?

I second the praise and the desire for ESPN360!

Keep up the good work. It's much appreciated.

Re: A Couple New Channels with More to Come

This is very exciting.

I would like to be able to add the following channels: ESPN360, Fox (regular, in addition of Fox News), and the Metropolitan Opera video streams.

Thanks nowhereman.

Re: A Couple New Channels with More to Come

ESPN360 via the Roku would be nice but not sure if possible.....the live streams are most likely an impossibility at least until Roku implements their HTTP Live Steaming support which apparently is in the works and even then, the live feeds may be technically impossible.....also, I know that ESPN360 is technically considered premium content as most people gain access to it through a package deal with their ISP....my ability to access it is via my ISP, so even the recorded events may be impossible.

At any rate, I did locate a FAQ for ESPN360 that may help someone more knowledgeable than I determine if it is possible.....

http://espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/faq

That would be a great addition to the Roku channel lineup however.......I would be thrilled if it were possible....
Roku 2 XS>HDMI>Denon AVR-361>HDMI>Samsung 2333HD
Scientific Atlanta Cable Modem DPC2100R2 >Dynex DX-E402 Router (no wifi)
USB>Seagate Barracuda 7200 SATA 1TB in dock.

Re: A Couple New Channels with More to Come

Seems like such a channel would need a client on the pc side, for copying and pasting the URL. I'm not fighting the remote for that.

Maybe this idea would be a better fit for My Media or Roxbox than a standalone channel.

You can, of course, generate your own RSS feed for those videos and point Mediafly to that.

Hey, I'd love a channel where I could enter the web address of a .mp4 file and have it play Smiley Happy. The internet Archive in particular has LOTS of .mp4 files that don't appear in their RSS feeds Smiley Sad.

You can do this right now with Mediafly. You can create your own RSS feed and load it through Mediafly.

It would still suck less than having to edit RSS. Right now I can download and play them with RoksBox (watching "In the Year 2889" right now Smiley Happy) but it would be easier to use the remote to type in the URL - especially for those less technically inclined. You'd not have to type in the whole thing if it prepended "http://" Smiley Happy

There are tools like CDNOne to allow for easy RSS creation/editing. You could create a feed to the specific shows you want and then load them via Mediafly.
