Netflix and low bitrates

Why is it that the Roku Stick is getting the short end of... well, the stick, when it comes to the Netflix app?

Same movie (RUN, 2020), video bitrates:

On the Roku: @1.1 mbps

On the LG TV app: @1.75 mbps

On Windows 10 (Edge Browser): @4.75 mbps.

WTF is this? Can someone please explain?

Re: Netflix and low bitrates

Different devices support different levels of compression. Does the picture look any worse on the Roku compared to the others? Roku does not just have a single version, but typically has many variations of files depending on the abilities of a device. Just because it's more compressed doesn't always mean it is worse.

It does. That is what made me check the bitrate on different devices.

I really hate this per-device "optimization" Netflix does.
