Movies not showing up in Roku media player

I am using a 4K Roku streaming stick +. I have my movies stored on a Jriver DLNA server, they are stored in a variety of formats, but mainly mp4 (H.264/AVC) or mkv (H.264/AVC), with either 2 channel or multi channel (DTS/DD) soundtracks. When I try to view the movies in Roku Media Player (DLNA option), only the 2 channel MP4 movies are displayed, I cannot see any of the MKVs with multi-channel sound.

My Roku stick is attached directly to an Onkyo AV receiver which can decode DTS/DD. My Roku is supposed to handle MKV (H.264/AVC) and pass through DTS, so why am I not seeing them in Roku media player?

I have used a tool called 'media info' to provide details of the formatting for one of the movies which will not play, but I believe it should. Can anyone advise what the problem might be here?

Re: Movies not showing up in Roku media player

With DLNA servers, they only show media that they determine is playable. This means the DLNA server is supposed to understand the capabilities of the player. Sounds like your server does not recognize that the Roku will allow DTS bitstream passthrough from a MKV container (and it does, so it should work). I don't know if JRiver permits modifying the profiles used to determine what a Roku can play.

I've never played with the JRiver server, but I have tested several others. I have no problems with Serviio streaming my DTS and DD media. In fact, I created a number of profiles for Serviio that are shipped with it. You can even stream DTS Master Audio without transcoding, as the Roku will pass the DTS core and ignore the HD audio portion. Unfortunately, Dolby TrueHD doesn't work that way, so they all need transcoding.

Re: Movies not showing up in Roku media player

Great thanks very much. I made a quick adjustment to Jrivers DLNA settings and loads more movies have appeared now. I will just need to work through the different options until I can see/play as many as possible. Thanks again for your help.
