Is It OK To Add Pornhub To My Channel Lineup?

How does Roku feel about people adding Pornhub to their channel lineup? Not considered like an illegal download or anything is it? Just found out from Pornhub that they have Roku channel but want to make sure am ok with Roku before trying to add to my lineup. Are there any known tech flaws with Pornhub channel or virus issues that could harm t.v. - Have been a Pornhub viewer on computer for many years & have never had any issues, has always seemed fairly well protected - Just wanna make sure no issues with Roku first regarding Pornhub channel - If not how do I go about setting up channel in good working orderand above board? - I understand Pornhub has premium channel set-up, is this channel workable for free users?

As long as you wear a mask & gloves your TV shouldn't get a virus. I think you've got the rest of the social distancing thing down.

Re: Is It OK To Add Pornhub To My Channel Lineup?

It's a private channel, unsupported by Roku. As long as it's not violating copyright laws, Roku will generally leave private channels alone. But there's no guarantee that it won't be removed in the future. Roku has full authority to remove private channels that violate laws or Roku guidelines. Those guidelines can be found in the developer's section of the Roku web site.

Re: Is It OK To Add Pornhub To My Channel Lineup?

There are "download" buttons under most videos on adult tube sites such as Pornhub, but just because the tube site makes available a download button under the vids doesn't mean you won't get a letter from a law firm representing an adult production company such as Brazzers threatenting to sue you for illegally downloading their content - Pornhub may have offered a download button, but Brazzers did not give you direct permission to download their content or to even have someone upload their content to Pornhub in the first place - Just because Pornhub found a way to put a "secret" channel on ROKU, I want to know that Roku will not get mad at me for putting said channel in my channel line-up (before) I do it so I know I am above-board with everyone. I love Pornhub & would love to have it on my channel line-up but want to know Roku is o.k. with it first. Sure, it is not an officially approved channel, I know that...Roku does not "officially" support adult oriented channels, but are they opposed to users actually loading it & using it on their platform?

Well, to my knowledge that private channel has been available for years, and Roku has never disabled it. So most likely they aren't going to bother with it after all this time. Since it's a channel made available by the content provider themselves, there's no copyright laws being broken in general. Does that site have permission to stream all the media they have? That isn't a concern for Roku, as they already make it available on a public web site. They aren't using Roku as a undercover provider.

and, if it eases your mind any more, some time back a question came up, and, in the responses, it was found that there is/was an official spokesperson for Pornhub in the Roku forum community.

so, anecdotal evidence at best...

Re: Is It OK To Add Pornhub To My Channel Lineup?

@henryleehenson I believe that's your message within the quote lines, so I'll attempt to respond.

On Roku devices, Pornhub was always an unsupported, private channel. Earlier this year, Roku discontinued support for all unsupported channels, regardless of the content. It had nothing to do with the content, they were simply removing their potential liability if someone developed a private channel that offered illegal content. By illegal, I mean streaming video they didn't have a legal right to provide. Roku still has private channels, but they are restricted to solely allow testing new channel versions, and are both time and quantity restricted.

Bottom line, Pornhub is no longer available on Roku devices. If you have a private channel code, it will no longer work. If you had the channel installed when support was stopped, it was removed from your devices and account. There's no workaround to put it back. The content providers would need to go through the public channel authorization process, which I suspect would not be something they would attempt or Roku would approve.

The only option you have to view such content on your Roku would be to screen mirror a phone or computer and view the content on the larger screen in that way.
