Hulu Channel Bandwidth

On my Roku 4660x set to 720p, Hulu uses about 2.5GB per hour. Does that seem high to anyone else? Is there a way to set the Hulu app to use less bandwidth?

It seems high. Which makes me question how you came to that conclusion. Troubleshooting it properly would include stopping using Hulu at all, and verifying with up-to-date bandwidth stats. Most ISPs don't offer real-time stats. Most are delayed hours, even a full day. So, are you sure about those stats?

Anyway, you'd stop using Hulu and look at the stats. Then, after your stats were caught up, you'd start using Hulu for a certain length of time, then look at the stats when they're refreshed.

So, to be certain, it would likely be a long process.

Beyond that, look at this: https://help.hulu.com/en-us/video-quality

Re: Hulu Channel Bandwidth

My router has real time stats. I can reset the counter anytime so getting an hour's worth of data isn't a problem. Same for my cell phone.

That's a useful tool to have. So, have you tried that link? Does it offer anything useful?

In my earlier provided a link from Hulu that offered suggestions about bandwidth. You made no mention of it. I was asking if you had tried it.

Re: Hulu Channel Bandwidth

Yes, I read that page and many others. Nothing useful that I can find which is why I tried here.

Edit - looking at the numbers I must be getting the 1080p stream even though the roku is set to 720p. If the Hulu app has an option to change the stream I can't find it.

I also have the Ultra (4660) but don't use anywhere near that much data when watching Hulu. Not sure what's going on with your setup.

I don't have any router settings to limit bandwidth on devices, but you may want to check to see if your router has such functionality. If nothing else, ensure the QoS settings are set to default.

Of course, those settings would be for the device, not one particular app on the device. It is extremely odd if you're only getting high bandwidth usage on that one app, and not also on Amazon or Netflix or any other app that uses adaptive streaming.
