How to get the Spectrum tv app back when it has been deleted from roku stick

Spectrum had me remove the Spectrum TV app when trying to help me with something.  Now I can not get the Spectrum TV app back.  How do I get it back on my Roku

Re: How to get the Spectrum tv app back when it has been deleted from roku stick

For the time being, you can't get the Spectrum TV app back on your Roku stick. According to this page and this page, Spectrum is currently in a carriage dispute with Roku. So, that's probably why Spectrum's customer service department basically tricked you into removing their app from your Roku stick for the time being. Not sure when this matter will be resolved between the two parties involved. But I can tell you from many years of experience dealing with these types of things, carriage disputes can take months or even years to resolve. Your best bet is contact Sprectrum's support department and start putting pressure on them as a customer or even tell them that you want to drop your TV service with them for the time being until they decide to get their act together and do the right thing here and resolve this matter with Roku.

I'm not sure who is to blame, Spectrum or Roku. Since Roku is not saying anything about this my guess is that the fault is theirs. They removed the Spectrum app from their channels and I'm sure they could bring it back or at least give us some kind of explanation or warning. In addition to complaining to Spectrum we can also stop buying from Roku and return any devices that are eligible to be returned.

Looks like you may be right. According to this article, a Roku Spokesman said the following:

“As America’s #1 streaming platform we are committed to providing access to amazing streaming content at an exceptional value for our users. Our contract with Charter for the distribution of the SpectrumTV (v)MVPD channel on the Roku platform expired and we are working together to reach a positive and mutually beneficial distribution agreement. All existing SpectrumTV app users can continue to use the app while we work together on a renewal."

There are some other articles about this online, but I won't post the links to them on here since this post could be flagged as spam and removed. DM me if you want them.

If you insist on keeping Spectrum as your internet provider and Cable Media supplier

What could be so difficult about switching your HDMI port to the one served by your cable box?

Spectrum and Roku are in direct competition. Spectrum of natural course does not want to play nice with Roku.

All you need to do is switch your Source/Input....

@boogernose, I'm going to answer your questions in the way that you phrased them.

If you insist on keeping Spectrum as your internet provider and Cable Media supplier

If there was another broadband provider option where @scottharmison resides, I'm sure that he'd probably look into switching. However, for most people (myself included) there is usually only one broadband Internet provider available and that is usually the cable company, since most phone companies, AT&T espectially, doesn't want to make the huge capital investement necessary to run fibre Internet lines out to your home.

What could be so difficult about switching your HDMI port to the one served by your cable box?

Because Spectrum charges a monthly rental fee per cable box (varies per location), many subscribers are starting to do away with their cable boxes and use the streaming app on their Roke device instead, via the Roku Channel Store. Which basically means using their Roku box in place of a cable box via the Spectrum TV app. Until the carriage dispute with Roku happened, as I wrote about in my prior posting, Spectrum was one of two cable TV providers that offered their TV app via the Roku Channel Store. As far as I know, Spectrum was not charging subscribers an extra fee for an additional outlet to customers who chose the TV streaming app option because they consider Roku boxes as third-party customer owned equipment. If anything, customers using this option actually saves cable TV providers money because they don't have to buy cable boxes from their supplier for customers' use nor do they have to spend money on cable box recovery fees when customers don't return equipment after cancelling service. Comcast is the other cable TV provider that offers their Xfinity Stream TV app for download via the Roku Channel Store. This is the option that I recently went to and returned all three of my X1 cable boxes back to them, which now saves me about $24 a month in cable box rental fees. Whilst Comcast does have a monthly data cap of 1.024 Terrabytes a month, they do not count data traffic against your montly limit whilst using their Xfinity TV Stream app. They know the difference between traffic because you have to log in to their TV stream app.

Spectrum and Roku are in direct competition. Spectrum of natural course does not want to play nice with Roku.

I guess you can they are in direct competition as far as TV service goes. However, in most areas as I wrote in my reply above to your first question, Specturm is usually the only broadband Internet provider available. As such, most cable TV providers (Spectrum and Comcast included) know that customers still need their broadband Internet service to be able to use their Roku box, so instead of loosing a customer entirely, cable TV providers are starting to offer their TV streaming apps on smart phones, smart TV's, and on streaming boxes like Roku, Chromecast, Kindle Fire, and Xbox One. Unfortunately, due to the current carriage dispute, Spectrum's TV app isn't currently available in the Roku Channel Store at the moment. Don't expect this to be permanent though. Carriage disputes have a way of hurting both parties involved in the long run, so it's to both parties advantages to get this worked out. Spectrum TV customers will just have to take a wait and see approach for the time being.

All you need to do is switch your Source/Input....

Yes, you can do this if you have both a cable box and a Roku box hooked up to your TV and it has multiple HDMI inputs. Some older TV's only have one HDMI input. But, like I wrote in reply to your second quesiton, most cable TV subscribers are starting to do away with renting cable TV boxes and using their Roku box in place of a cable box, especially if the cable TV provider offers a TV streaming app in Roku Channel Store.

Your solution will not work for the millions of Spectrum users that do NOT have cable boxes and instead rely entirely on streaming the spectrum ap through ROKU.

Many Spectrum subscribers do not have a cable box. They access Spectrum TV only via the app on streaming devices and do not lease a cable box.

That only works if you actually have one of their boxes. Some of us don't want nore need to pay an extra 9$ a month for a cable box.
