HDR Issue in Amazon Video App on TCL 55P605

After updating my TCL 55P605 to OS 8 I have started to have trouble watching The Grand Tour in HDR. When I play an episode the HDR icon at the top right of the screen pops up indicating that the video is being detected as a HDR source but the colors are extremely faded like watching an HDR video on a non-HDR display. Prior to updating to OS 8 I watched the first season all the way through twice with no issues what so ever. The unusual thing is the issue started with only 1 episode but after watching a few more episodes other episodes started not playing back correctly either. At first it was only 2 episodes affected but currently all but 2 are affected. It seems to be getting worse. I have tried multiple factory resets and multiple times deleting and reinstalling the Amazon Video app to no avail. HDR on all other sources still plays back fine. Including other installed apps like YouTube. Can you please help me fix this issue? Thank you.

I am having this exact issue. I have the TCL 55P607, which is the amazon version of the 605. HDR10 content on the Amazon app is washed out, no tone curve is being applied. Dolby vision content in the amazon app displays correctly, as does HDR10 from other apps and other sources.

When I first noticed the problem I was still on version 7.7, and the problem persisted when I updated to 8.0, so it must be an amazon app problem.
I have emailed TCL and roku in hopes of a solution.

Same issue here. Since Roku OS 8 update and I believe the Amazon Video app updated as well, all HDR10 content via the native Amazon App on TCL P605 is washed out, muted colors as if the tone mapping is completely gone. Creates a very yellowish hue across the entire screen.

A TCL Roku P series owner on the AVS forum thread has seen the same issue with the native Amazon App on TCL Roku set, but if they use the Amazon App on their XBox One device connected to the same set the HDR10 content plays as expected. Seems isolated to the native Amazon Video app on TCL Roku P series set.

Can a Roku support representative review this thread and the version information provided above and let us know if this is a known reported issue that is being worked on?

Anyone experiencing this issue needs to post the following information (Settings > System > About):


  • Serial number and Device ID

  • Firmware version and Build Number

  • Make/Model of AVR (if applicable)

Thank you for the prompt reply. Updated my information in Post #3 to provide what you requested. Let me know if you need additional information. I am not running anything through an AVR, so my setup is pretty clean from a troubleshooting perspective.


FYI. This appears to be with HDR10 content only via Amazon Video app. Dolby Vision content from Season 2 of Bosch plays without any quality issues on Amazon Video app and HDR10 and Dolby Vision content across other apps (i.e. Netflix, YouTube) play as expected.

I'm having the same issue with Amazon HDR content as others in this thread. I'm not sure just when it started, but I know the content I'm seeing it on used to look fantastic, now has the flat, washed out look of an HDR signal with no tonemapping applied.

The problem is only with HDR10 on Amazon Roku native app: Bosch season 2 in Dolby vision looks great, but season 3 in HDR 10 is washed out and so dull it's unwatchable. Same issue with Goliath, Man in the High Castle. The latest Grand Tour is the opposite, looks pretty great (but a bit overly saturated). Also HDR 10 on YouTube looks great, and Dolby Vision on Netflix and Vudu is overall pretty good albeit a bit dark). Below is a comparaison of Goliath with HDR 10 / without and settings on "normal".

Just got a Roku OS updated and quickly checked to see if HDR10 issue in Amazon may have been addressed, but sadly it is still there. One thing I do notice is that even though the main picture is washed out and devoid of tone mapping, if you FFWD or REW the stream and observe the thumbnails that are created they are popping and full of color and contrast as you would expect the main screen to look. Below are my stats again with the updated Software Version.
