Help & troubleshooting for channels on your Roku device, including adding/removing channels, logging in to, authenticating, or activating a channel, channel-specific playback issues, assistance contacting channel publishers to report issues, and adjusting channel-specific settings.
Doesn’t do you any good if you have HBO through DIRECTV. You can’t use your DIRECTV subscription through Roku. So Danny what are the options other than having to buy a subscription to HBO through Roku.
I just ran up against this issue today. First I logged into DirecTV to make sure my login info was right. It was. So I get a customer service rep in a chat. That dimwit tells me I need to change my DirecTV password to meet HBO's login parameters. I do that and still no dice. He hands me off to someone else. Who can't figure anything out and hands me off to someone else. I get increasingly frustrated and do a simple Google search and find this thread.
I'm so pissed off at HBO and DirecTV right now. Waste hours of my time with dimwit customer service who haven't bothered to keep themselves up to speed on things going on between their company and their partners?! No one thought to save me time and simply inform me that, "Oh, yeah. HBO just isn't going to let you use your DirecTV login anymore on Roku????" "You have to watch on another device???"
Grumble, grumble, *wishing I had a whiffle ball bat*, grumble, idjits.
For anyone else who has been having trouble with the first two solutions, I finally got mine working.
Here is how I did it:
I logged into HBO Max on my computer using my DirecTV credentials. Then I located the account info and added a password. I signed out and back in to make sure it worked. It did.
I tried the HBO app on Roku using the same email in my HBO Max account and the password I just set up. It did not work. I tried multiple times, quadruple checked the password and email. Nothing worked.
I then downloaded the HBO Max app on my phone. Tried to log in using the email and password that worked on my computer but it did not work on the phone app. So I then logged into the phone app using the alternate method "Sign In Through TV or Mobile Provider". Once logged in, I then located the account info (person symbol bottom right corner on my screen) and tried to setup the same password but it did not recognize my password to edit account info. So I clicked Forgot Password and had it email me a link to setup a new password. I followed the link from my email using my computer rather than the app and setup the password. Then I went back to my phone app and logged in using the email and password and THAT WORKED!
I had to do the steps on my phone to make it work as nothing I did on my computer worked.
