Roku's e-mail about the discontinuance of HBO GO after the end of July, perhaps erroneously, gave me the the impression that it would be available as a standalone service on the Roku channel. That, at least at the present time, appears not to be the case. After Aug 1 will one still have to subscribe to HBO to get HBO GO from Roku? i.e., pay for two services?
Not being an HBO subscriber, I haven't paid all that much attention, but..
My understanding is that HBOGo is being replaced by HBOMax which will have HBO plus additional content. Those with HBO subscriptions will be given access to HBOMax, as they have access to HBOGo now. The thing is, HBO is still negotiating re getting HBOMax on Roku and Amazon streaming devices, so you won't get HBOMax on Roku until the agreement is reached.

This memo makes clear that Verizon is one of those carriers for which one has to sign in to Verizon BEFORE activating an HBO product. You are correct. Roku does not have HBO SHO but they do have HBO NOW. If Verizon is your carrier and you try to activate this before signing in to Verizon, you get a message stating that there is a fee. If you close the sign in box, and sign in to Verizon HBO just lets you sign up. There is no authentication code or or anything else required.
