Cannot launch Youtube

I have a basic Roku stick with my smart tv. Youtube was working fine til yesterday - since then, I am having a problem launching it with Roku - like many others here, I have already tried the recommended fixes for this, and none of them have corrected the problem. The message I am receiving is "Youtube could not be run because it could not be reinstalled from the network. Please check your network connection and try again."  The other message I frequently get is that there is not enough space to load Youtube, and to delete other channels to free-up space - - which I have also done with no difference. My network/internet connection is fine. I have done system restart and system update MULTIPLE times and no change. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Youtube MULTIPLE times - still no difference. This is e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y frustrating and time-consuming, especially when you try the suggested fixes to this problem, and nothing works. I am rethinking this whole Roku thing - not worth the trouble it gives you. Strangely enough, if I press the "Youtube" button on my TV remote (not Roku remote), it launches just fine - so why won't this work when I try to launch it using the R-O-K-U remote??? I'm disgusted...I give up....

Re: Cannot launch Youtube

I have the same issue including YouTube tv. Started yesterday as well.  Oddly enough, it is only on one stick.  Everthing is fine on another stick and on a RokuTV.

Re: Cannot launch Youtube

That's interesting...I have 2 Rokus - - one is the stick (having the Youtube problem) and the other is Roku Ultra (this is working fine). I was thinking that maybe the stick version no longer supports Youtube..? But then, you indicated that your other stick was working OK - well, so much for that theory...! LOL

Good news is, I am still able to view Youtube using the tv remote "Youtube" button...a minor inconvenience, but I guess I can get by with it. Otherwise, I am at a loss to determine the issue behind this Roku/Youtube problem. It does appear that there are many others out there who are encountering the same problem, so maybe the Roku folks will wake up and provide an explanation (and solution) to it.

Good luck !

Re: Cannot launch Youtube

Please, everyone. When you post a problem with a Roku device, you need to include the model number. Not just the name. Roku keeps reusing names with completely different hardware, and we need to know what you have. Simply saying you have a "Stick" doesn't mean anything, as there has been 6 different versions, and the first two versions are no longer supported.

Re: Cannot launch Youtube

There are apparently contractual issues going on between Roku and Google, which also seem to be contributing to this problem.  There's more to the story than just having an older or unsupported Roku model.

Re: Cannot launch Youtube

YouTube is working fine on every Roku in my home. That includes 3 different versions of the Ultra, a Premiere and two Roku TVs. If there's a problem, it's with Google's programming with their channel. Personally, I wouldn't trust Google to be purposely modifying their channel to mess up on some devices.

Google continually designs their channel to work poorly on older devices. I had to replace my old 2 XS (which is in a drawer and still works if I connect it) mostly because YouTube refused to work on it any longer. It always seems to be the first channel to have issues on older devices.

Re: Cannot launch Youtube

@Bradman @jlstain27  @rd36mnm

Try:

1)  Network connection reset (Settings/System/Advanced system settings)

2)  Change theme to the Roku Default (Settings/Theme/Restore default theme)

3)  Change screensaver to a Roku clock (Settings/Theme/screensavers)

4)  Check for updates (Settings/System/System update/Check now)

If this doesnt resolve it, and you have OS10 (Settings/System/About), you can try reverting to 9.4 (search for the forum for the steps), and contact Roku directly:

chat or email:   https://support.roku.com/contactus/contact-options  (choose setup/ultra/other/need more help?)

and message @RokuDanny-R @RokuMary-F and @RokuKariza-D

Re: Cannot launch Youtube

Can't possibly imagine how changing the theme and screensaver is going to fix an issue that is involving only Google apps when all other channels are functioning properly.
