Cable provider? Fire stick do require one

Why the cable provider need to be able to see channels thats free? Firestick doesn't require a provider . Most people with a Roku are trying to escape cable high fees . Stupid requirement

Re: Cable provider? Fire stick do require one

Because some of those channels are not free. You are paying for them with your cable subscription.

Cutting the cord means you buy your subscription in other ways like Sling TV or in my case AT&T TV. Depending on the package you get you can save money over a traditional cable subscription.

Some channels allow you to subscribe directly, but cable companies are deeply entrenched and unfortunately will be for the foreseeable future.

That said it’s impossible to assist you farther since you didn’t specify what channels.

Re: Cable provider? Fire stick do require one

I have this issue with Fox Now. I don't have cable or satellite just the roku stick. I could watch Fox Now for the last several months and for some reason today it says I have to have a cable or satellite subscription. Why has that changed from 2 days ago?

Hi @Msmenard2002,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

We recommend contacting FOX NOW directly to follow up for more help and inquiries. They’ll be able to best assist with any issues and functionality inquiries. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.

You can reach CNN support here:  FOX NOW support

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

Regards,
Mary
