All channel apps have error message

Jump to solution

Roku express. Every channel app I try to open has an error, "could not be reinstalled from the network." Out of nowhere. Is roku a brick?

Try:

1) Change your Theme to the Roku Default (Settings/Theme/Restore default theme) - try again

2) Change your Screensaver to a Roku clock (Settings/Theme/Screensavers) - try again

3) Check for updates (Settings/System/System updates/Check now) - try again

4) Network connection reset (Settings/System/Advanced system settings) - try again

5) Factory reset (Settings/System/Advanced system settings) <--- last resort

It's having trouble connecting to the channel store.  It could be a temporary glitch at Roku's end, but you should try rebooting everything - modem/router and Roku.

Thank you for responding! I did reboot the modem and router but to no avail. The roku is connected with a strong connection. I've updated and restarted a bunch. It's so weird.

Holy cow! That worked! Thank you so much! I don't know why it worked but it did! I changed the theme and Screensaver. Thanks again.

Re: All channel apps have error message

At first glance it seems bizarre that changing a theme or screensaver would impact apps loading, until you realize that themes/screensavers are (hidden) apps themselves, which take up both app installation space (when downloaded/installed) and operating space (when active/running), and have to contend with ever-larger OS updates in the same amount of device space (which is effectively the source of the issue).

You're welcome, and if anything similar happens again, try the same steps.
